I don't think you can use a remote starter on the E60 because the car does not wake up till you unlock it, right?? And if you unlock and start the car whilst you're some distance away, somebody else might make away with your prized possession.
Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

[/quote]BMW recommends NOT warming the car up before driving; rather, start off immediately but gently. 2 reasons I think: 1) excessive idling has been thought to contribute to carbon deposits (I still have my 1982 320i - the motto back then was "keep the revs up"); 2) warming up by idling is unnecessary, wastes fuel, and contributes unnecessary pollution.

My Ride: 2005 545i (SMG)
Titanium Gray
Black Interior, Anthracite Trim
M-tech kit
Sport Package
Premium Sound
Satellite Radio
Active Cruise
Comfort Seats
Navigation
Folding rear seats
therefore prolonging engine life.
That's about the most ridiculous excuse for remote start I've ever heard.
Just stick with the "cools car" "warms car" argument.
By the way.... you can set whether the E60 relocks doors automatically after 30 seconds if no door is opened. It's in the iDrive menu, if I remember correctly.

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
When I first bought my 05 e60 back in Sept. 2004 I inquired with the dealer about installing a remote starter. He was totally against it, stating in order to install one into the e60, the dashboard had to be removed to properly fit the installed componets. Well, that said was enough to make me forget that I wanted one.
I never followed up if the dealer was right or not, but I fiqured, why would he lie to me, after all, the dealership would be making the money for the remote as well as the labor cost.
There's that old saying, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth but don't let it stop you. I don't know if I'd have anyone mess with the electronics especially since we all know about idrive. But I still wouldn't mind having it but I see it as more of a convenience.
