I am not too sure when I'll start using the RR on the 545i, but pretty soon. And, yes, I am interested in seeing how the meters compare.

There may be an answer for me, but I don't think that BMW corporate is very simpathetic. Apparently, their attitude is too bad our new software doesn't work well on your car, and there is no way we'd even think about letting you do a "system restore." On the other hand, I am convicned that my dealer will do everything it can, but dealers' hands get tied very quickly.

Thank you for the good wishes. I am not expecting much. I hope I can break 14.
With the times you have been posting(8.93/79.5 in 1/8) grogans formula sez you will turn the 1/4 in 13.80 at 101.5 mph.Curious to see how close this is to actual.

One other thought.Since your are testing in the dark I assume with headlights on ther will be some power loss due to load on alternator,but I don't know if will be significant.

I have assumed everyone went in both directions to try to take out road level and wind. That is what I intend to do. I have only just now begun to think where I can do this without too much traffic, population and availablility. Looks like I have to go about 10-15 miles from home to get to a decent place. I could get closer but would have to be after dark.

You beat me to it g-man. I'm back from my 1/4 mi. attempts,and I was going to apply grogan's fabulous formula right away. If you have time, go back and apply the formula assuming 100 MPH since the "101.5" value is assumed. But, we know that the formula is very robust with respect to the assumed top speed value. So, not much difference would be expected. I'm busy tabulating and getting my results ready to post.

Hi cd:

grogan545 always uses two directions, and Bokke had been doing so too. I have been a little concerned about not doing so given possible biases, but, given today's results, which I will be posting soon, I no longer am concerned. Be care whatever, my friend.

Below are all my post-dealer-reset data. Several things related to the following table are worth mentioninig (a) the remarkable consistency from run to run, (b) the apparent levelness of my new strip as evidenced by the data similarities,? the confirmation that my old one-way strip is level since it yields results almost identical to both directions of my new strip, (d) my car's obvious lowness in HP, (e) my car's continued dismal prerformance and (f) my keen eye for level surfaces. A comparison of the results in this table with my single new-strip DS run below shows, as has been the case to date, that my car is much faster in D--which should not be the case. This point, in combination with my HP readings. suggests that the correct fuel map is not being loaded under 20.01.00 in DS. Of course, other explanations are possible.

OS D = Old Strip D Mode; NS/S D = New Strip/South D Mode; NS/N D = New Strip/Nouth D Mode; and OS D = Old Strip D Mode

He was referring to what I call grogan's fabulous formula. As indicated, his formula predicts that my 1/4 average ET would be 13.8 this morning given his estimate of 101.5 for my 1/4 MPH. His result will be low because my average 1/4 speed this morning was only 99.95 (Ugh!) versus his estimated value of 101.5. His formula can be used to predict both 1/4 ETs, given 1/8 mile results an estimate of 1/4 speed, and 1/8 ETs given 1/4 mile results and an estimate of 1/8 mile speeds. His formula is very robust with respect to the needed speed results and its parameters. Here is what his formula gives for my average D results from today (Tests 3 and 5) assuming a perfect estimate of my 1/4 speed.

Est 1/4 time = 660/((((.6(Est 1/4 Spd - Act 1/8 Spd) + Act 1/8 Spd)/94.6)138.75)) + Act 1/8 time
.....................= 660/((((0.6*(99.95-78.65)+78.65)/94.6)*138.75))+9
.....................= 13.9217.

I think that the above calculation is fabulous since my actual average for today was 13.915. Note that grogan's prediction of 13.80 was off by only about .12 (13.9217 - 13.80) even though his estimate of my average MPH today was off by 1.55 MPH (101.5 - 99.950).

Using grogan's formula to estimate my 1/8 time, given a perfect estimate of my 1/8 speed, gives:

Est 1/8 time = Act 1/4 time - (660/((((.6(Act 1/4 Spd - Est 1/8 Spd) + Est 1/8 Spd)/94.6)138.75)))
.....................= 13.915-(660/((((0.6*(99.95-78.65)+78.65)/94.6)*138.75)))
.....................= 8.9933.

I think this prediction is just dandy too since my actual average for today was 8.998.

Thank you again for your confidence in my formula.I wish your problem had gone away but looking at your times it has not.I have a couple of stupid questions Znod.
1-Were your previous good times run at night with lights on?Electrical system drag could suck up some horsepower.
2-Are all your present times at night?I test during the day with every electrical option off.

grogan545 - great times! I might try a couple with DSC on! FYI - my runs have been in the day, as I am too scared of not seeing stuff that might cross my path

cobradav - same issue here about the location. My best bets have been in industrial parks as they seem to be closed on the weekends and thus not much traffic and the roads tend to be very wide.

znod - sorry about the slow times...but take solace in that they are still quicker than mine

Cheers,

Great runs g-man. And, you are very welcome. You will get below 4; I am very confident. I don't think my problem is electrical--as my lights virtually always have been on, and the problem was present upon leaving my dealer after 20.01.00 was installed.

I have an appointment on Tuesday to remove my B&B and throttle body. I want to compare back to stock--especially the HP numbers. Also, for performance reasons and because of the B&B, I have been driving only in DS--using a combination of manual and automatic shifting. Now, that my car is faster in D I want to drive in D. Doing so is a problem because the B&B creates resonance at low RPM in sixth gear, and the tranny shifts to sixth very soon. So, to drive in D and to not be fiddling with the lever too much, I am swapping mufflers. I'll be selling at least the throttle body.

Again, great numbers. Go for 4.

Cheers,
But, they might not be faster than yours for long. Thanks for the sympathy.
