OK, Patriots. I understand your point and I just share my understanding with your theory/fact.
Let's say in CIP 15.0, it consists of
E060-xx-xx-555
E090-xx-xx-001
E065-xx-xx-456
Then there is an upgrade in E090, so they'll release CIP 15.1, for example. So, CIP 15.1 will consists of
E060-xx-xx-555
E090-xx-xx-002? <== NEW
E065-xx-xx-456
So, the E60 and E065 does not have any change at all. Only E90 does.
Is that right?
Usually, dealer will have a list of what are the fixes in the new CIP. Rudy can extract one example from BMW TIS which tell what new CIP fixes current CIP.

Here's my version of the version argument. Besides that we don't really know what the answer is, Urbo, have you considered that Internet Explorer 6.0 has been 6.0 with probably about 100 upgrades from it's launch. Many of the internal programs have changed numbers, but "IE6.0" has remained the same.
Also, Windows XP... same thing.. still windows XP, even though hundreds of updates have been made. sure, there are version #'s, and those change with each update.. just like V 15 goes to V15.1, then 15.2, and so on.
when you pull up a driver for a component on your computer, and you go in to driver info, you see the driver, and depending on the component, any number of "sub" versions for various pieces listed. The driver remains, but the sub components change..
So, V15 may stay with your E060-xx-xx-555 MAIN version, but my bet is that some of the attributes of that code has changed.. in fact, last time i got upgraded, to 13.3 i believe, the tech left me a 2 or 3 page prinout with each and every function, and to the best of my knowledge, each one showed a change from , as an example "i-drive v.123.456.789 to V 987.654.321"..again, an example.
Your theory makes sense, but only to the very basic lamen. In fact, the same lamen wouldn't even notice, nor care whether they have 13.1,13.3, 15 or 14.2, nor would they ask.
I agree with Iceman - there are changes with each and every release.

Wassy,
This is not a theory anymore, as I've said above. But I'm done commenting on it. It's so basic, I'm not sure why some people have such a hard time understanding it. I've described why and how it works, yet others choose to believe whatever they want w/o backing it up really. That's fine by me. Anyone is welcome to go "upgrade" their car from 15.0 to 15.2. Too bad it will be a total waste of time. Honestly. I was trying to add something helpful but it ends up controversial! Just weird, what elses can I say?
And BTW, IE with each upgrade changes versions. Look at it. It's not just 6.0...

Not all "changes" are considered "changes", so the version number doesn't change.
There are changes with every version, yes, but at this I have to agree with urbo, not for every series. Sometimes just for one series - but what exactly is a "change"? Some "changes" are not changing the version number...

Maybe they don't do this intentionally, but the versions 15.0 and 15.1 and 15.2 are different.
But it's not worth getting the upgrade done from 15.0 to 15.2.

Ice, I know they all HAVE them, I am asking about the recall. I did not get a notice in the mail. Is this recent? I had some sort of recall about 6 months ago but if I remember correctly I think that was for somthing with the emmisions (i know O2 sensor can impact the emissions).
