This isn't so much a neat trick but a confession of a recent discovery.
On an '08 or newer sport auto with paddles, it always has bugged me to reach my fingers around the wheel to upshift.
Well, just the other day I got tired of using the 10 and 2 positions and moved my hands to the spokes at 9 and 3. Wouldn't you know it, the paddles extend down to the back of the spokes. From 9 and 3 its an easy reach back with 2 or 3 fingers to upshift......
You learn something new every day. And I've had the car for 2 years.

By the way, this "feature"

Now, since this thread is all about tricks, have you figured out how to downshift without using your thumbs but keeping your hands at 9 and 3?

Doesn't work on my 08 European model. Is it a US feature only ?

Not sure, but the mirror switch has to be turned to the driver's side for this to work. if it's switched to the passenger side, it disables the feature.

Doesnt work on my 09 UK 525i, maybe this is just a feature on the folding mirrors option ?

Why mess around with dvd's that only hold 4.7gb of data? put all your mp3's on a thumb drive and stick it in the USB port.(not sure if this is standard though) I dont have the nav/premium sound. I ripped all my cd's that I have around here, about 200 or so and it took just over 8gb on a 16gb thumb drive. Would imagine the 32 and 64 gb thumb drives would work too. And if you are a music junkie, you could have unlimited music with multiple drives.
It works just like an ipod at a fraction of the cost. You control it with your car controls and you can play via directorys, playlists, genre(sp) I used windows media player to rip the cd's to mp3(change from defaulted .wmp file)
