Me too. Let's see what they say.

As a consolation, at my request, they gave me a 2010 335xi loaner with sports package. The car is a rocket. It feels a tad bit faster than my 550 although not as stable and well-planted as mine when going over bumps especially when turning (such as on on ramps). It also does not have the beautiful engine sound of a V8 under WOT. But the 335xi really does accelerate fast. About 100 times more fun to drive than my 528xi loaner. The 335 is definitely a driver's car.
yeah 335 = smiles! my 525 vs my 328, the 328 is was more fun around town, but my 525 was so frickin comfy on the highway...
hope el dealer fixes your problem!!

Right on. 5 Series is much more comfy than 3 Series. 3 Series is fun to drive.

As many of you know from my thread last week about this, my car wouldn't start and had to go back to the dealership for repairs because the battery was dead and it would not start.

Well, lo and behold, right after today's Tri-State Meet, it happened again. I was at the Roosevelt Field Mall with member brabusw209amg and it took my three tries before my 6 month old car would start. The first two times, I pushed the starter button and heard nothing but the futile clicking of the starter. The third time it finally turned over.

I am bringing my car back to Circle on Monday. I expect to write a funny thread about the loaner car.

A week ago when I last took it into Circle BMW, they told me that the battery had been drained, that they had fully recharged it and it was "fine". They refused to give me a new battery, claiming that there was nothing wrong with the battery and that they could not identify any source of electrical drain. They also claimed that the alternator was fine. Obviously, they were full of crap and I am about ready to threaten then with invoking the lemon law (probably too early legally but I want to let them know that if they do not fix this problem, they will wish that they never met me).

Needless to say, I'm pissed. There is no excuse for a $70,000 6 month old car not to start. Kerry, you will be happy to know that I have ditched the Circle BMW license plate holders for ones fro TT Motorsports.

Has anyone had a similar experience?
How often do you drive it? I drive my car 15 miles a day and I have a similar problem with my battery. I was told by the SA that I don't drive it long enough for the battery to be fully charged. I've had it checked 3 times and they haven't seen any problem with the battery or with the alternator. My solution is plugging the car to a battery tender at least once a week to charge the battery at 100% capacity. I know it sucks but that's the way it goes with these cars. I'm sure some with LCI cars would chime in.

Well, I have an update from the dealer. They have concluded that my starter is not functioning properly and they are replacing it with a new starter.

That may or may not be right. During the incidents when the car would not start, when I pushed the "start" button, the starter would still "click, click, click" away furiously but the car would not start. I have had dead batteries before and when they were dead, the starter would either not work at all or sound very very slow when engaged.

I expect to get the car back tomorrow.

A bad starter solenoid would give you the same exact symptoms you described. Hope everything gets back to normal soon.

Hopefully they will get it fixed right for you this time.

+1 on the 335XI. My car was in the shop today also, for the common transmission slam (2nd time), and they gave me a 2009 335 xDrive. Last time they gave me the 328 and that was a bore. I was shocked when I punched the gas in that thing. I thought my car had some punch, but not like that smaller, lighter 335. It was fun to drive, but I was happy when I picked mine up just a little bit ago. There is no comparison in ride quality and interior finish between the 3 and the 5'er.

Glad to hear they "found" the cause. Time will tell if they are right or BS.

Pretty sure your real issue here is indeed the battery, Scott. From the symptoms you describe, it's a more likely culprit. If it is, the new starter won't help you much... Would be interested to see if your car does indeed have the same battery when you get it back...
