But there is no such info over here and there are these rumours, that they failed the EuroNCAP crash test. The rumours also say, that after that the German T?V decided to take a closer look at the next to be released E60, the M5... and refused it. That's why, according to te rumours, the M5 is delayed.
When you talk to BMW reps, nobody is willing to say a word, and BMW is not releasing official results over here...
I don't know what it is, but they seem to have a problem.

I hope that none of us get to find out 'first-hand'...

Hi,

here you see the test results of the modified E60 from Euro NCAP:

http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_rat...p?id1=4&id2=208

I would be interested to get the results of the test before the modifications.

So now we have it....the E60 definitely scored LESS than 4 stars originally!

Even with 4 stars, I am totally gobsmacked that BMW could not make the 5 star rating like the new Audi A6 and new E Class!!!

It puts that small element of doubt in our minds...

With the M5 being such a powerful car, it is now 'clear' at least to me, that BMW could never have released it with a lower NCap rating like 2 or 3 stars. That would have been commercial suicide. No matter how technically fantastic it is, or how fast it goes etc., it has to be EVEN safer than before!

4 stars is "JUST OK"...... "Just..."

Sorry, if it proves to be just a rumour :

BMW could move forward MY2006 production from September to May 2005.

Seems reasonable if it is due to safety.

igor:
Not a rumor, I believe your hunch is correct: 2006 production will probably start as soon as March, with deliveries in April. There is a very specific memo on Centernet (BMW's dealer website) that states that U.S. dealer's March allocation will include "more powerful engines for the 5 Series" (as well as the AWD versions) and of course, the new 2006 3 Series.

It would make sense that since there is this safety issue going on, BMW can kill 2 birds with one stone. They can now justify the increase in price due to the safety modifications by not only giving us better engines, but by also turning over the model year as well.

I just hope they will improve imterior and options as well. For that I am ready to pay reasonably. The car really deserves it.

BMW is going to have to get the R6 in the 5 as soon as possible because it will be a tough sell when they have a 330 with 258hp and a 530 with 225hp for close to $10,000 more. Also the e350 is on it's way as well. As for a price increase, it wouldn't surprise me one bit, the exchange rate has to be hurting them whether they want to admit it or not.
