For me, they did the job they were intended for...

Late at night with family in the car on a busy freeway, I ran over a 3/8 inch broken drill bit. I was able to drive the last 20 miles home without incident and deal with it in the morning.
When mine punctured, dealing with it in the morning was the worst part about it. Basically you have to get it fixed or changed. No tyre place I called had one in stock. So had to wait until the next day to have tyre replaced at vast cost. I could have driven at low speed, but last time I did that on punctured runflat my car developed some new rattles, the rough ride shook it apart!!. Give me regular tyres anyday, at least you can have puncture fixed in your own time.

To date I have yet to hear one good comment about run flats.
OK, well, I like mine a lot. Ride nicely, handle great, a bit noisy as they age.

Recently had my DunFlops replaced (FREE by stealership) with Goodyear Eagle NCT5 Runflats. So far, nice ride, great handling in dry and wet, not noisy.

Only issue was today when the tire pressure monitor indicated that I had a flat!! I checked the pressure in all tires (all OK), reset the system and continued with my trip. All seems ok.

I too once thought runflats were ok. When I went with 166's and had to switch to non-RF I realized how much RF suck and what I've been missing for over 1 yr. The runflats do what they are designed to do (get you home with a nail) but they were not supposed to steal the wonderful drive character of the car -and thats what I think they do - wooden shoes, noise and "flat" all the way  I've had one flat where I could not get home without changing the tire in the last twenty years- I'm not willing to trade performance for peace of mind for something that's such a rare occurance. JMO.
Great, what a speech.I am so confused!why dont BMW company give an option for chosing car with run flat and 1 doesn't.BMW 5 series 523I is the only car in the BMW now that doesn't has a run flat tyre on it,well others have.I think BMW must give us an option about those tyres. What do you guys think about it?

For all you non-believers, here is solid evidence that nothing can compare with the safety of the run flats. As some of you remember, in 2004, I split two wheels all the way completely in half longitudinally and came to a straight line stop without mishap. I have been a believer ever since. Here are the pictures of one of the wheels.

Personally, I never did mind the ride comfort of the run-flats. They also have better response and turn-in compared to regular tires.

But the ironic thing is it was probably the runflats themselves that caused the failure! The extra strength of the sidewalls transmits more impact to the rim...
