From my personal experience with my 05 545 it can be nothing.I have had increased emissions error 2 or 3 times and after couple of days it was gone.Recently I had car checked by the dealer and there are no problems whatsoever.

I agree. One night a few weeks back the increased emissions warning came on out of nowhere.
I took my '04 545i to the indy shop to have it checked out and have the warning reset. Since then I have had no reoccurences. Oh, no charge also.

While I was there though, I was able to pick up a Dinan exhaust up for 25% off! It's off at the powder coater to have the tips powder coated semi-gloss black. So my visit to the indy shop turned out to be productive, except for my bank account.

I got that code and it was a vacuum hose leak. If it was your gas cap, once you turn the car off, tighten the gas cap, restart and drive, the message will go away. If it doesn't, then it's probably the 02 or vacuum. Mine ended up being 2 cracked hoses that needed to be replaced.

Gas Cap might trigger this message if not closed properly.

in my case it was a stuck the gas tank vent that caused this error to pop up in the i-drive.

The warranty coverage for specific emissions related systems is longer than the standard 4yr / 50K mile warranty. Check your warranty materials.

I've heard this also. Did you check the manual?
