Had my 525i MT serviced at an Indy shop after getting some recommendations on this forum and just noticed the sticker on the windshield after few weeks of driving says the grade of oil used was 5w-50 castrol syntec. I mean i just assumed they would use 5w-30. I am in SOCAL so i don't know why they used 5w-50 and don't know if i should change the oil immediately or wait till the next oil change. would 5w-50 cause any extra wear and tear. BTW i only have 58k miles.

 

You'll be fine, I'm sure your warmer weather is why they used what they did. The 5 aplies to the consistency when the oil and engine is cold . the 50 applies as the tempertures rise. 40 or 50 grades are most often used in the summer months for added protection.
