Yes sound system needs to be upgraded, I did it as attached, got my E60 3 weeks ago, have 400 km so far, now at UDOMCHAI stereo shop getting a tune... All parts original BMW M5 ordered via BMW Chonburi.
link: http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=39135 this replaced my E39 3.2 Schnitzer, again all original parts. Did the BMW driving experience at Utapao Airport a few months ago, drove all models even 645 with SMG, best was the 330, and believe it or not - the 730... Active steering is the worst on any car, but in Thailand you get it standard on the 5 series, had to really push to get it removed from mine! Told the dealer would not buy the car with active steering. Took 4 months to get it. All M5 parts you see are from BMW direct. M5 brakes front & rear going on next week. What an addiction... Cheers Ted / Siracha, Thailand
Mine is a new Thailand CKD 525, has start button, leather I drive button, aux input, bluetooth, they call it a "2007" but in other markets it is one year behind. Would have got it in january, but pushed them for the upgrades and no active steering, so took almost 4 months as mentioned. I did not mind the wait, happy it is finally here though!

Hey guys, I'm in Bangkok too, I just ordered a black 520d today and will be getting it soon! I used to have a E34 525i and it was awesome.

Just a few questions, though, I have a lot of modding in mind for the car:

1) Power upgrades. Are there any local distributors of the power chips and similar mods? Hamann also has a boosting kit, is there an official distributor here? How about the throttle booster thing, does it make a noticeable difference?

2) Bodykits. Earlier in this thread I saw someone recommending Autosport for original and replica kits, is that place still any good? Is there a big difference in quality between replica and original kits?

3) Rims. 20" or nothing! Any good places for the Hamann (20th anniversary) or Breytons? Estimated prices for original ones?

Khob khun and long live the E60!
hello, power upgrades, many for E39, but takes time for the E60 mods to arrive in teh market, there are many in US, UK and Germany, but you have to consider warranty and service at BMW Thailad. I understand chipping the Diesel is very noticable power increase and worth the cost.

Body kits, RPM on Ramkaheng (soon to be Thonglor), they have or can get most anything, original, import or local copy or 3 crowns.

Had 20's on my E39, rode very rough + Thai roads have many holes and you will damage them. now have 19's M5 166 on my E60 with continental tyres, cost a lot - but look great. You can find original and copy Hamann at 3 crowns. For my Range Rover, they wanted 125,000 for the sport rims. I bought them in teh US on line for 18,000 as take offs including the Pirelli Scorpions (AMAZING PRICE), shipped them by sea, paid customs allin it was 40,000 THB, far below the 125,000 THB at the dealer. If you are comfortable with that you can do it.

Same with BBK (big brake kits), in Thailand they want 350,000 THB - 400,000 THB for Brembo GT front and rears for E60, I found online the same exact kit for 187,000 THB shipped to Thailand, and the supplier will put a 300 USD value to reduce the import. That is about 50% local price. I finally opted to order an original set of M5 brakes, 15" rear 4 pot and 13.5 front 4 pot and got the complete set for 127,000 THB delivered to my home. BMW Thailand wanted over 200,000 for the same parts.

It depends on how comfortable you are for shipping the items, I will say be careful of the knock off body kits, try to buy originals if possible in your budget. They all look good and the prices are very attractive, but the will likely not last. Same for copy mag wheels.

I am a 100% beliver in original parts, but I also try to buy in europe or us when possible to get a more reasonable price. After all we pay enough for the cars here with the taxes that are applied!

All the best

Ted

The wheels look hot bro. Do you think they would look alright on a Titanium Silver, 2008?

Thanks Bro,

The time i went to change my Stock wheels, i had a vast choice starting from Replica wheels and ends at M6 Wheels (the most expensive), then i compared the design and i found out that M6 wheeel suits an E60 the most, i first installed the Breyton and then changed it with the Hamann and at last i got my M6 Wheels, I think it will suit your vehicle too but be safe as so many Replicas in the market,

Wow thanks man, that's a lot of good info!

Actually I got second hand original M5 19" rims first, but traded them for 20" Hartge Classic 2's... Fills the arch a lot better, also now with lower suspension (Koni FSD struts and Eibach Pro springs). All from a shop on Chula 26

As for the diesel tune, I got it done at A.Motor, and WOW, it made a really big difference! They changed the air filter as well to a BMC one, it should help a bit too.

Bodykit-wise, I've ordered the original M Tech one, I agree with you that the reproduction ones are probably more trouble than they're worth. Getting it from Autosport on Chula.

I'm also waiting on a Sebring exhaust specific for diesel, and will change to a bigger intercooler in the future.

I love this car! I love diesel!

One last question, with all the mods on your car, do they give you any problems at BMW when you take the car for servicing?

Thanks!

Hey Pat,

Did you get my message about the brake kits? I believe that was you - right?

The rims look great! The other guy's pic with the M6 wheels also looks great!

Diesel - Sometimes I get teh good fortune to drive an E60 touring 530 D when I am at my company HQ in Germany, and it is FANTASTIC! Pulls like a train and never lets up. So I feel ya, gotta love it.

All the mods were done by BMW. The car now has only 1000 km, and all mods were done before I took delivery. The only other shop it has been in was at UDC (Udomchai) for the stereo install, and they did a FANTASTIC job. See the link http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=39135 the sound is simply AMAZING. Check out where I put the RUX controller. Got the idea from an installer in S'pore. so cool...

I want to do a spring kit, but BMW told me with the Dynamic by drive adding lowering springs would void warranty... -- I then heard that it only voids the warranty if BMW can PROVE the damage or failure is from teh springs... I am really hot for a spring kit, but don't want warranty issues... Have you hear this from your BMW dealer?

Cheers!

Ted

Hi Pat, may I ask this shop at Chula 26, I don't know about it, did they give you a good price for the struts and springs? If you don't mind I would be interested to know the cost, I am really hot to lower mine... And does this shop do good work?

Thanks

Race Mesh Grill - Powder Coated Black - have you seen these - they are hot! See link

http://www.autowerks.com/xcart/customer/pr...=680&page=1

Do you know if these are available in Thailand? I am thinking of a pair of the black powder coated ones with the lower race mesh grill in the M5 air / brake intake area - but look at the price they ask for this. Unbelieveable.

We should get together and have a good metal working shop in Rayong make up a few sets for us!

Hot for a black set of these grills on my Titaninum silver e60... Black or chrome would look good on Pat's black E60...

But the price...!!!

Cheers,

Ted
