REALLY happy happy joy joy I will check with my salesman friend again next week and see if he has updated info on this option, I would love to get a 550 but price is just out of my league I do have a family and they do like to eat ever so often.
If you load up the car the difference is about $6000 or 10%. Premium package, PDC and comfort seats are some items that are standard on the 550, but extra on the 535.

I can kinda understand a 550 with a manual, but even that doesn't really make sense to me. An e60 BMW is a luxury car and I just can't imagine having to shift a car like this manually. If you're looking for a manual, then buy a 2 seater coupe/convertible sports car, but to me all 4-door sedans should be autos.

I'll only drive a manual for one reason only: I want to DRIVE the car, not have the car drive me!

Since when does being a luxury car prevent the car from being a sports car? Those concepts are not mutually exclusive. Whether or not a car should have a manual transmission should have nothing to do with the number of doors it has.

I have to admit that although I did a Police Advanced driving course in manuals and autos, until I bought my first E60 I have always bought manual gearbox vehicles. Having now owned two E60s I would not buy a manual. Its all down to personal prefernce. Whilst both vehicles have had auto boxes the only person in control of the vehicle is me not the gearbox. The BMW auto is so good that I personally think the drive in an auto is as good as a manual.

i used to drive my 6spd porsche in LA traffic all the time. makes the choice of tranny for my 550 real easy. i never did much heel and toe in standstill traffic.

edit--the quickest cars i've ever driven were automatics and turbos. a gnx and a gmc typhoon. theres nothing like building boost powerbraking in a gmc typhoon and leaving a ferrari from a dig.
