Znod,
Long time no see. Hope things go well to you!

Some conclusion that I've drawn from this thread is that Americans more of congratulating and encouraging a person when he/she is successful and achieves something, compared to other part of the world. In other words, Americans always encourage you for doing better and appreciate.
Sorry for being off track. Talking about debadge, there is a couple of views that I've seen that someone might want to be either:
1. Having a clean look
2. Posing or "Up-badge"-ing (poser). This is criticized by lots of folks here
3. Being humble/Shy (debadge)
4. Pretending (M5 or 550 with 520 badge slapped on)
5. Being for him/herself (M badge or M badge with existing badge)
Whatever it is, just keep in mind what you're driving.
Hi to you again, and thanks much. From reading the discussion, I have a few conclusions:

1. The reasons for debadging are interesting and varied.
2. Making and expressing "good" and "bad" judgments about the reasons that some debadge is not fruitful and leads to conflict.
3. We have demonstrated why it is important to be respectful of others and tolerant of both the trivial and substantive, when possible (i.e., which applies virtually all the time), differences among us whether or not from the same hemisphere, country, state, city, street, or family.

Embarrassing dilemma,
I just picked up my new 2008 E60 550i Sport {Beast-ette} 2 weeks ago.
My previous car was a 2001 E39 M5 that I traded in on the 550i.
The M5 license plate read: M5 BEAR.
The 550i now has the M5 BEAR plate on it.
M5= The BMW Beast. BEAR = My nickname.
That's embarrassing.
Going to order new plate for the 550i
New Plate, maybe: FERRARI {ha-ha}

What do you guys think of that?

Best,

Bear

P.S. If you want to see a gaggle of exotic metal, just take a drive along South Beach.

Yep.

Here in Germany it could happen that your neighbours laugh, because you bought a 5er and can't afford a bigger engine. And people who hate you for driving the fiver, because they can't afford one, will do damages to your car, because they know it hurts you. Putting the damage to a 545 or 550 they know that the driver just gets it painted and doesn't really care about the cost (in their thinking).

Also, as JSpira said, the environment thingie...
A lot of reasons, but mainly envy.
Same in Italy.

I don't understand why Americans are driving anything above 520:s, anything else is plain stupid. A lot of traffic, low speed limits, bad roads and a cop around every corner...
same gose with HK any thing over 520i is a wast.
I know I have a 525i I got it 20% cheeper than the market price that why I went for it. I will do this again for the F10 look for a Demo car itis alway 15 to 20% cheeper in HK.

Mine was a loaded ex-demo car with 20 k km on the clock in pristine condition. Price saving was 34% and I didn't have to wait. Easy choice
