I called BMW of the main line in Bala Cynwyd PA (Dinan Authorized dealer) yesterday to schedule an appointmant so that I can get the Dinan performace software for my 06 550. They put me on hold for about a minute, and then told me they no longer do the Dinan software upgrades because in one month BMW will have there own performace software available. I asked how to get more info and she told me to call BMWNA. Anone heard of this before???

this type of mod from BMW should be standard on sport models.I bet this is based on Dinans applications.
I like the idea. It will just drive after market companies to compete harder and offer better products than BMW.

BMW has terminated its relationship with Dinan and started to do performance parts inhouse.

Any more insight on if the information is accurate about BMW bringing out their own performance enhancement software?
I was planning to get the Dinan software upgrade for my 550i in the next week or two, but I would really like to see what BMW is bringing out before I go down the path with Dinan. My sense is that BMW will not be removing the top speed limitation in their version, but I guess we could all be surprised.
Part of me hopes they are not really doing this because I could see it leading to a new stream of nice revenue for BMW. Stock vehicles might be purposely put out with only ok performance, but if you spend an additional $1,000 you can get "good" performance. If you spend $2,000 you can get "better" performance. Finally, if you spend $4,000 you can get their "best" performance.... It seems like you should get the best they can do with that model (stock) when you spend $70K+ on a car!
Having a third party like Dinan do these upgrades seems like a way to avoid any conflict of interest issues between the car manufacturer and its customers.
Just my opinion....David
