That was wierd, right after reading this the dealer phoned me to book my car in to get the replacment screen. I discussed the fan problem with him again and said you'd had it solved 
so he's going to check. In any event they are going to upgrade the car to the latest version of the software. Car is booked in for Tuesday, I'll let you know how I get on.
E60-530d-London do you know what they did to fix your car, was it a software upgrade or did they actually change components in the car ?

My car has been in garage for a total of 14 days over 3 visits for idrive problems. I have each time asked about the non auto control of the fan speed. each time I was assured that it should operate automatically. twice the software has been reloaded and it still does not work. Glad that someone has cracked it. Looks like another trip to the dealer
