I have 134,000 miles and the car is still strong even though I have had a few problems such as had to reseal the motor at 110.000 and a spark plug coil(I think its called) go out.

I'm in the market for a 5 series stickshift/manual with under 100k...now whether to go with a 02/03 530i, 04/05 530i, or splurge on an 04/05 545i? Just have heard so much negative stuff about the V8's, and also about the overabundance of electronics in the e60's that is starting to scare me off...

do you all think in general that e39's were more reliable than e60's?
Each generation BMW's has more electronics and more. I think in general V8 is more reliable, but owner with I6 will tell you different. I want V8, because after M3, 530 is sluggish with almost same problems as previous generation I6 (cooling, valve gasket, alternator, misfiring, and I think double vanos seals as well). BMW SA told same thing that V8 is very reliable, I know him for 5+ years, and he worked for 15 years at BMW dealer.

i need to find more service advisors to talk to, cause the one at my local dealership said the v8's cost more to maintain...I guess that doesn't mean they're inherently less reliable, but cost of ownership is also a concern of mine...I don't want to dump thousands a year just on maintenance...

76000 miles on a 2004 525i, replaced valve cover gasket this year. Just regular service (brake fluid, oil / filter changes, etc).

100,300 miles on my '04 545i. Finally got it broken in and going strong with no leaks. My E38 just hit 200k on original engine and transmission. If you take care of them, they will take care of you.

Wiring near rear trunk hinge wore out, needed addressing.

Car seems to keep reporting through FTM a tire puncture, but tires are ok... Not sure what's up with this.

88K miles on my '08 535xi, only changed spark plugs. Every once in a while I get a small interruption/light jerk when accelerating harder, so I scheduled a tranny fluid flush for next week. Other than that nothing, love this car. Knock on wood..... Scratch that, bang hard on wood, no sign of HPFP problems.
I'm really glad to see other BMW enthusiasts with so many miles, still going strong.
