I may have to stop for gas; take a shit; and get some mints along the way, but that'll just make it an even race.

...

Then, I'll buy y'all a drink when you finally get to the Arlington Hotel.
So when you both reach your 155mph limit pretty quickly and then the 535d stops for fuel only half as often, how are you going to win exactly?

Hi clived:

Was your car DMSed when you did the 14.1 (or so) I mentioned above? And, what about when you apparently did a 13.8?

At 155mph both the 545i and 535d consume fuel rather rapidly... With 'press-on' driving the fuel consumption differences are not that sizeable!

znod - thanks for taking the time to respond and explain.
Peace

I am updating our info on 0-100 MPH for the 545i and the 535d.

PLEASE see completely updated table a few posts down.

Here is everything I know at this point about 0 to 100 MPH for the two cars.

All Steptronics:

{.................................545i............ ...................}{...............535d.......... ...................}
..............MT........RT............MT........GM .......MCO.{................GM's...............}.. ...MCO
...........Aug-04...Jun-05...Oct-05
0-X.......13.70...13.70......13.80
0-100*..13.60...12.70*....13.60.....14.9.....12.43.. ....15.1.....16.4.....15.3**.....16.87

X = 102.1, 104, and 102.8, respectively
GM = German Magazine.
MC = ModCar.org (Edit: Will remove the MC times if they turn out to be calculated. See needforspeed's comment below.)

*Please keep the natural bias in favor of the 535d in the above values in mind. The US mag times are for 0 - 100 MPH. The German mag times are for 0 - 99.42 MPH. In this regard, it takes my car more than .1 second to move from 99.42 MPH to 100 MPH. Thus, each of the 535d times should be increased by more than .1 second--perhaps as much as .15 second.

**I found one new time on the BMW Germany site and the RT time.

needforspeed found 1/4 in 14.5 and 0 to 100 in 15 for the 535d at FastSaloon.com. If we can determine that they result from actual tests, then I will add them.

Znod - I think you need to drop the modcar figures. Unfortunately, it seems they are theoretical not measured.

The data comes from here:

http://www.letstorquebhp.com/default.asp

It's calculated based on weight, power and drivetrain - interesting, but not accurate enough.

This site might be interesting:

www.fastsaloons.com

They have the 0-100 for the 535d as 15secs, the mean of this and the 3 german mag figures is 15.45secs.

Quarter mile is given as 14.5 secs.

Excuse me? Are you using "apprently" to suggest you think I've made it up?

I want to stop debating the Step vs SMG speed times, but don't you think if the new M5 or M3 would be faster with a Steptronic that they would have one? Do you see Formula/Indy/Nascar or any race car coming equipted with a Slushbox? They would if it would make them faster.
My previous Steptronic cars had great transmissions, very responsive and they even downshifted going into turns. I have an SMG car and its not hard to do a run, you just disable the traction control and floor it, thats the same as doing a run with my previous two Steptronic cars that I have previously had.
I agree with this point. Very solid and logic. Imo smg is a hair quicker than steptronic. SMG III is ALOT quicker if we compare the same times. I drove an m5 with smg3 and can attest that it felt and for surley was alot quicker in shifting.

I am using "apparently" to indicate all I have is hearsay from others. I don't think that I have ever seen you make the claim, but maybe I missed it. I would appreciate answers to my questions. Perhaps others would too. And, I don't make the sort of insinuations that you may be inferring that I do.
