I give up man. I simply give up. Your whole post is made only of numbers. If you don't find that close....then i simply give up.
Good plan.

C'mon znod - I can't let the uber-performance tester off so lightly

Besides I'm not one of those guys that takes his bat home if the game doesn't go his way.

What am I missing ? Why don't you think 0.2 of a second on a 0-100 time is close ?

It actually seems closer than I was expecting - I thought maybe a second / second and a half.

Please get a grip on reality. The figures you are referring to all are from magazines.
I'm afraid i have quite a good grip on reality thanks very much, you should be looking much closer to home on that front... You just cannot quote figures out of magazines and say that one is better than the other, without first testing both personally and then comparing the figures.

znod - I don't know if I am reading this right, but it seems to me that the 0-100 times are within 0.2 secs of each other???

That's seriously close............. isn't it ?
Here is every thing we know at this point about 0 to 100 MPH.

All Steptronics:

.......................545i..............
............MT........RT..........MT
.........Aug-04...Jun-05...Oct-05....535d (Ger Mag)....535d (Ger Mag)...545i (Ger Mag)
0-X.....13.70...13.70......13.80
0-100..13.60.................13.60.....15.1......... ................16.4.......................14.9

X = 102.1, 104, and 102.8, respectively

According the the 3 US mags, the 545i gets to 102.1, 104, and 102.8 in the 1/4 in 13.70, 13.70, and 13.80, respectively. The best reported time to only 100 MPH for the 535d is 15.1. That is a huge difference--many, many car lengths. The same conclusion applies if we look only at 0-100 data--the 545i is many, many car lengths ahead at 100 MPH. We have two highly questionable mangazine results--in orange above. I don't think they merit serious attention. But, even if we allow them as evidence, the preponderance of evidence says the 545i is much faster in a straight line.

Haha, ok so who's e-penis is the biggest?

545i is quicker, BMW wants it to be quicker, mags tested it and it's quicker, if you want the quickest, buy an M5 end of discussion. Mods (DMS remaps etc.) should be discussed in the parts and accessories section and shouldn't be discussed here as anything modded is out of bounds.

Ignoring the actual test results of Znod, grogan545i, and CobraDav, the magazines are the only basis we have for comparison. I will be happy for you to ignore these data. I have never argued that magazines provide definitive answers. Above, I agrue the contrary. I only say that they provide the best evidence we have and, given that evidence, the preponderance of evidence strongly favors the 545i in straight line performance.

I apologize for making the comment about your grip on reality. I found your post about "boring tests," etc., to be highly offensive. Our fora are not about flaming others, disrespectiving others, and disrespecting their opinions, preferences, and values. Please refrain from doing so in replying to me in the future.

Do you have the slightest idea how many car lengths are implied by that many partial seconds at around 100 MPH? Here is your assignment. Please figure it out mathematically and post back. You would not believe me if I told you anyway.

Znod why do you refere to yourself on the 3rd person?
You did so countless times before...i'm just curious.
I replaced your "I"s from the second paragraph with "Znod". Sounds better heh?
