My Ride: 535d E60 350+hp/700+nm DPF off

Last year, when I initially changed the hoses, i also replaced the two electrovalves - part 1 and part 4, heard they are common problems at 335d's. Still limp mode.
Now i replaced also 5 which is located in the hot area, above the heat shield of the turbos.
After replacing part 5 and clearing the ECU logs, i managed to hit around 235kph with no limp mode (hoooray ), but on the 2nd attemp it went again in limp mode

Around how many horsepower has your car?

Looking forward to meet you.

You mean part 1 and part 2 ?
I bough part 1, part 2 and part 4. I found that I don't need the holder any more, only needed to replace that if I had an LCI model, which I do not.....

If you "only" replaced part 1 and 4, that leaves part 2 unchanged, which I think, controlls the boost of the big (low pressure) turbo....

I think / hope my car still has the standard 272 horsepower. It had an engine rebuild at 62.000km, where everything apart from the engine block (that meaning turbo, pistons etc. were new), and all the other parts, injectors, DPF, and so on, were overhauled.
I suppose I could drive 2x to you, once before, and once after the changing of the parts, only that I have no clue if there's a place for a high speed run near you, would not risk it.....

Vlad

Edit: And yes, I think mine did that at exactly 235 - 240 km/h as well, in 5th and 6th gear as well.

i re-checked the parts replaced, and i actually replaced part 2 and part 4. I still have to replace part 1 (11 74 7 796 634), but i think this is used by the small turbo at low revs. Perhaps if the pressure converter of the small turbo doesnt work well, it affects also the big one.

Check this PDF file, where it explains how the 535d turbo system works at different RPM stages (middle of file):

I checked at home at the old parts replaced, and part 1 was changed as well, plus the temperature sensor near the intercooler main front pipe.
So changing all electric turbo valves and sensors, did not help...

Next phase.. put it on a dyno and see if the wastegate actuator of the large turbo, is moving and lowering the boost level, at 3900rpm/230kph.

I see yours accelerates a bit longer. At my car, if i press full throttle (kickdown) it goes on limp mode at around 230kph, and manage to reach around 240, and then it hardly can keep up speeds higher than 200 kph.

Did you find at any BMW dealers what's the problem (or a possible hint), or in a BMW service?

All your problems are related with ecu tuning. My car also had this problem after the DPF removal but my ecu tuner was able to solve it. I still didn't talked to him about what he did but you can also contact him at PKE
Since the gearbox was rebuilt last month, now it may go into a big project: port and polish cylinder head, custom intake manifold with individual throttle boddies, equal lenght exhaust manifold and hybrid turbos.

hi guys ... i have the same problem with my 535d e60(2008.) ... 428b fault and throwing it in limp mode...
first i had DPF removed and put K&N filter...there was no problem...
then i did the remap to 370hp(from serial 286hp)... still no problem...
then after about two weeks i had problem at about 230kmh,throwing a 428b error code, then i had to go from home for about two months, and the car was in the garage.
When i was back, and try do drive it again...now it was throwing in limp mode at 150kmh (peak of 3rd gear) ...same error 428b...
Then i called my tuner to put back the serial map, becouse i was thinking he had do something wrong and the pressure was to high, but that was no problem, becouse we put the serial map,and problem is still here.
So as the car was not moving i think that is problem with wastgate from big turbo, staying stucked closed,or not responding in time, and then we have to much pressure...
Did someone tried to change a wastgate on big turbo and is it possible just to do that?,or you need to change whole turbo?
thx...

@zac9999 : keep me posted if you fix it.

I have not yet solved the issue. Tried with several ecu maps and changing all sensors.
Each time i remove the errors with a BMW tester device, it seems the car goes a bit longer about 240 kph, but after the 1st attemp it goes to 220-230 to trigger the error.

Every time is the same 2.5 bar issue.

Noticed the vacuum hoses are again in a quite bad shape, so I will replace all vacuum hoses at next oil service with other ones that have better thermal resistance than the OEM ones.
