Thanks. What do I need to put it in the ash tray/coin holder pull out instead of glove compartment?

The ashtray mod is something completely different from the actual iPod interface install. The ashtray dock is just an addition to the interface and is a custom solution by the member who posted that.

I just installed the iPod adapter in my '05 545i (11/04 build). Went pretty smoothly and took about 20 minutes. It took a bit longer since I was moving slowly in this heat! Anyway, all my blank disks are at the office, so I can't burn any MP3s to test. Is this what one would expect to see if the MP3 function isn't yet enabled:

I burned an MP3 disk today and tried it. I got the same error in this picture. Taking her to the dealer next Wednesday. Hopefully they won't give me a hard time since she just came out of warranty a few months ago. I'll just take the service bulletin with me and beg.

Here's some pics of the install. I think they are pretty self explanatory except that the CD-Changer screws don't come out. They just loosen and then permits you to pull the unit out. I fixed the iPod interface with the supplied cable ties. No drilling no nothing. Plug n Play.

PM me if you want the BMW service bulletin that will permit you to get the mp3 retrofit done for free, which enables you to play MP3 CD's or use the iPod interface. Or if you want the official BMW ipod interface installation instructions.

How would I get the Service Bulletin to have the dealer do a free BMW mp3 retrofit? I tried PMing but doesn't work
