Hello Shulrog,

I have read through all 12 pages (now 13 pages with my post) on this and it sounds great.

One question that I have, is this the genuine BMW part for this? I have the CCC with DVD slot, in dash CD player, SatNav and 6 disc cd changer in the glove compartment. Car is programed for MP3's and works.

If this is so easy to install, which it looks like it is, why does the dealership charge 3 hours labor to put this in?

TIA

Rich

I can answer this.

Dealerships often have preset job rates and hours to install. They often go by these in charging customers. I have actually seen my BMW dealership charge someone 2 hours worth of labor but only spent 1 hour or so on the car itself.

Its preset labor rates and install completion times set by the factory. That's how they justify it.

installation literally takes 15min. there is no justification for them to charge anything more than 50$. the more complicated it sounds the more they seem to charge.

Got the iDrive reprogrammed today and it works like a wonder. It's a little sluggish, but of course I have about 7000 songs
Do you print out the bulletin and bring it in?

Does my car have to come with a factory CD changer to have this work correctly? Mine is a MY07 without nav.

My car is an 06 530i, no NAV, has CD Changer and Main CD plays MP3's. I hooked up the retrofit kit and iPod shows BMW logo, but I cannot select CD1-CD6.

Everyone here is talking about the iPod music files, but what about the iPod video files ? can that be done by using the same installation methods, or it needs different route?

im trying to figure out what is that circled out on thick red "A".. and also i cant figure out how to attach the unit on the ceiling of compartment. there was a gray material with adhesive on the other side.. i cant figure out what is that for. on the DIY pictures it was just placed on top of the unit. it doesnt make sense if i just put it on top .. please help. thanks!
