I took my car to the dealer for a software upgrade.
They told me that if there is no recall they will charge me for the software upgrade.
They checked and found that there isn?t any recalls. The representative doesn?t know about the cost of the upgrade, so they will get back to me tomorrow

Do they normally charge for software upgrade ???
How much would it cost ??

I?m upgrading it from xx version to the latest version that will enable playing mp3 CDs on my business nav. They told me that the latest ver. Is 17, but I?m not sure if that is true, can someone confirm ?.

Thanks a lot?

Different countries may have different warranty details but basically, if you can complain about something not functioning properly (there are many bugs out there) that was fixed in a later version of software, you should be able to get a free upgrade (without a formal recall) under warranty...

Rudy is right.
Just give them a reason to do the upgrade for free.

Latest version is 18.xx

sounds like you were talking to another clueless rep. don't let them rip you off. there are so many things you can tell them and they know they have to fix them by updating the sw...under warranty.

Tell them that your passenger window anti-trap activates every other time you roll the window up and that your i-Drive reboots while you are driving. There are other software isssues but these worked for me.

Well, here is how I see it.
BMW releases new software, because the current versions are not bug-free. Therefore, those new CIP releases are FIXES, what means they have to do it under warranty. Even if you currently don't experience problems with your software, your software is not bug-free, you're just lucky.
If BMW one day releases a CIP what solves ALL problems, and then releases a new version wich adds features... then we are talking about getting charged for it. But currently, they should pay us for running the beta test.
