cobradav, was there a recent software release for the 545s? i brought my car to the dealer to get new brakes and told them about a little bit of jerkyness in the trans and they said there recent (2 days ago) software release from BMW to remedy the trans to make it smoother.

Thanks

Well 31.01.00. was to have hit BMWNA dealers early October and 31.02.00 in early November. I suspect what he told you is correct and it is 31.01.00 (they may abbreviate to 31.1 but it is TDS E060-08-09-520). It is supposed to have some good fixes for EGS (tranny software) so DO IT and of course report back on results.

Does it also updated the IDrive and other computer components? The SA mentioned that the IDrive would be snappier, which would be awesome.

SA mentioned that the software was version 31.1. He also said that is was a blanket upgrade. All components are upgraded. He said that this fixes all the previous tranny issues. HOORAY!!

I will update with my findings when I get my beast back.

Every update (PROGMAN) is a blanket update in that they run a "Measures Plan" that evaluates each and every module in the car. Any that the updtae finds not current gets updated. Almost no choice to NOT upgrade other than perhaps some retrofits.. You should ask for a copy of the Measures Plan and or Final Report so you have real techincal data on status.

1. Much better feel of the trans after I picked it up today. Seems to go into gear much more smoothly now. And they said that now that the new software is in, the computer will "learn?" my driving style. So that might explain why it took such a hard press of the gas to get a downshift. Now the downshifting is much quicker to response and quite smooth. So much happier now.

2. Also need new brake pads and new brake sensors. Something about them not wearing down along with the pads so they would cause this squealing noise, so they replaced all the pads and the sensors. Nice sensative brakes feeling. Almost feels like a new car with the trans and brakes being all practically new feeling.

3. To cobradav, here is what the Final Report says word for word, since I don't feel like scanning:

---
Flashed via DIAGBUS (check)EGS/SMG programmed : Old part no. progr. ctrl mod. = 7558370; New part no. progr. ctrl mod. - 7573679

Thanks for the info. I just had mine updated to 31.1 today on a non-NAV E60. The reason was for the harsh tranny shifts. Upon driving it, it immediately gave me a harsh shift from 1st to 2nd. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for the first 1000 miles, as I am sure the tranny is learning my driving style. What other improvements should I see? I understand that my E60 still had the same rev it was born with back in May 05 and sold as an 06 on August 31, 2005.

Thanks,

Joe

Could someone post details on SIB 52 06 08 ?

Doesn't 5 series have a similar issue with seat bottoms? At least mine does. I wonder if enough complaints were made there would be some form of service bulletin for the 5 series seat bottoms as well.
