As of mid June it was under investigation by BMW engineering. They have told dealers that no parts or reprogramming fixes the issue and to standby for a solution in the form of a Service Bulletin. I'll watch for it and post if and when I see it.
Dealer replaced the mirror drive motor yesterday and it appears to have done the trick. A similar problem apparently exists with the X5 mirror. Uggh, electronics.
