+1, here in Holland most of the e60's are diesel

I have always wanted to test drive the 335d, the thing is I dont like the 4 door version of the 3 and the 335d is only avaliable in the 4 door version here in the US. Lets see if BMW america comes up with better 5 and 3 disel options in the US

This graph does not show the torque, if you look only at the hp it does not look that impressive. The torque that what makes this car a beast....

I do know bms has a diesel engine specific piggyback tho...

There is an E60 535d and it is amazing, but BMW NA don't think you'd be interested in having one. Strange that they think Americans would want a 335d but not a 535d. They know best though huh.

. Not a lot in it. After test driving several of each (including an Autobahn max speed part to my tests) it was almost a flip of the coin for me to choose which I wanted. I went for the V8 but I'm sure I'd have enjoyed the 535d just as much if I'd gone that way. If I did a lot more miles per year, then the 535d would have gained a lot more points on not needing to go to the gas station so damn often.

It makes my 535i feel like a turtle, the pick up and response when I hit the gas compared to my 535i is like night and day. My sister drives a 7 series and I was over at their house yesterday, I let her drive it to the store to pick up some smokes and she even commented on how much faster it is than her car. My only complaint is that I'm 6'4 and it feels like I'm sitting in a civic, curse these long legs!
I'm 6 foot and the cabin and seat are too small for my long trips. Otherwise, I would have a 335d now.

What y'all are really saying is "what the f*** BMW NA, give us a 535d now". I expect the only reason they aren't selling it is because they think y'all don't want them.

Here's the Top Gear test of the 535d vs the 545. Not a lot in it. After test driving several of each (including an Autobahn max speed part to my tests) it was almost a flip of the coin for me to choose which I wanted. The E60 535d couldn't pass US emissions - it doesn't meet the CARB emissions standards, which is essentially why it was never sold here. The new generation diesel does, thanks to the AdBlue additives - but the 335d is still not quite as clean (overall) as the 335i according to the EPA which assigns a higher pollution score to the 335d. BMW NA says it is bringing a diesel F10 to the US, though it's still TBD whether it will be the 530d or the 535d.

Probably only those who have owned and driven BMWs for many years [and those outside the United States] might recognize the designation in my user ID. My very first BMW was a 1986 5 Series (e28) turbo diesel - a 524TD. Whether by the numbers or seat of the pants it was only slightly noisier at idle (actually QUIETER at speed) than the comparable 528e of the same year. The engine and passenger compartment benefited from special sound insulation materials. While I don't recall exactly, I seem to remember that the 0-60 mph run was within one-half second of the comparable gas car (the 528).

I drove that car for almost 300,000 miles before I donated it to charity and recorded average fuel economy of about 28mpg during that time. That wasn't from any instantaneous fuel economy gauge but tracking miles and gallons on a spreadsheet for tax purposes!! And as I recall I could rack up a consistent 35mpg on highway runs at better than average speeds! And the 524TD's passing ability was excellent - certainly not a rocket by today's standards - but it always elicited a "THIS IS A DIESEL!?!?!"

Even though I'm in Southern NJ the car started very reliably during the winter months and only was connected to the block and fuel heater on the very coldest of winter nights.

I've driven the current 335d and in past years have rented diesel BMWs (and other marques) when traveling in Europe. As for cleanliness and eco-friendly ... I'd rather drive a current BMW diesel than an electric juiced up by some dirty coal-fired electric plant!! If a 5 series "d" were brought into the US I'd give it very serious consideration! But that's just my opinion.
