My main reason for getting a manual is simply because it's more fun to drive. Even though a turbo isn't a GT3, it's still a porsche and still deserving of a proper manual transmission.

When describing the turbo as a comfortable GT car that's fast in a straight line, it sounds like the description of an AMG car. I'm sure it's common knowledge, but AMGs are all equipped with automatics while BMW M cars always have either manual or SMG. An M division car should never have a torque converter and neither should a 911.
I totally agree with you My friend has a manual 996TT and its really fun to drive. We test drove a tiptronic it was ok not as fun as the manual but with tiptronic the turbo tends to boost out of no where kind of hard to predict when its going to kick in unlike the manual where you know when its gonna kick in. But i bet the DSG's gonna be a blast to drive

I would purchase the manual. It's one of the major reasons I got a 5-series. Would've got a 7-series if it was offered in manual (just so you know where I'm coming from). I absolutely love the connection I feel with my car when I'm in control of rowing the gears...and this has nothing to do with racing or which version shifts quicker or blah, blah, blah.

I guess I'm one of a few drivers left who still enjoys 'driving' the old fashioned way.

I'm in that dinosaurs club as well. What would be better than a 6-speed manual, short-wheelbase, 7-Series Sport? I've said it before . . . I'll keep driving manuals as long as BMW keeps building them.

Have you seen the movie, "The Transporter"?
Could have been a mock-up just for the movie. Nevertheless, I wish I had one.

manual - with that much torque you won't have to shift that often.

Hahaha, i'm glad that oyu agree with me. So in that case all that mumbo jambo about the movie Transporter (manual shifting) is pointless.

I have decided to order a manual transmission with LSD (which is optional). 0-60 in 3.9s is ok with me. I would have preferred the sequential though . But it is a wrap .
