But!

Am really undecided about the transmission choice, since the PDK is not available yet. The auto transmission is said to be faster by a fraction, but I feel I will miss the downshift blip that is foreseeable in the future. What would you do?

Regards,
StealthB

If it's your primary car, I'll pick automatic. Otherwise Manual.

I don't care how much faster the tiptronic is, a manual is a must. I've read that PDK/DSG is at least two years away if that.

I'm for automatic also. Mostly because i consider a 997 turbo (i dream of it) as a primary car, and a manual is a nono. And much better at drags. .
Of course in a way i'm in between automatic and dsg. I'[m forced to wait 2 more years and then i'll consider a dsg one for real, not to mention a turbo S.

Its a porsche - a car that is simply about driving - an automatic box would just be wrong

Either manual or wait for sequential - given that the audi dsg is faster than manual AND auto and is based on OLD porsche technology the sequential will be the quickest.

Yes but following your logic sequential should also be a nono. You cand drive hard and most of the driving pleasure isn't about pusing a clutch and pulling a lever...imo it's about driving style, road, and your own abilities to make the best out of the car in other words DRIVING VERY VERY HARD, or for style going sideways. And both of this ca be done using manual or automatic or in the future dsg. If you use it as a primary car that is...because if you use it as a weekender or as a track car more, then why stick with the turbo?! Go full banana for the GT3 and then we can talk about driving. A turbo is a good primary car and most of the time in heavy traffic the least you would want a manual gearbox and a clutch to work a 480bhp engine. If you get the quick shift it will probably be even more tireing.
