I orderd the Motorola Razr V3 today from Cingular for $500. We'll see how this puppy works with BMW Bluetooth. This is the beauty of Bluetooth. I can change cell phones after using my V600 for 6 months. According to a knowledgeable source on this board the Bluetooth chip set is the same in both phones. The V600 will not be retired until I know that it works. I intend to just swap sim cards so that I can keep the same phone number. Then if it does not work, I can swap them back.

Is there any more feedback out there on BT audio quality for the other person?

There have been 8,176 views of this thread as of 11.11.04. Amazing. This has been my 15 minutes of fame! Unfortunately my 15 minutes are up.

I had my wife sit in the car and call my on different mobile phone. The sound quality was not so bad. I heard her fine. Cleary it is not the same as a fixed line, but it certainly gets the job done.

I do have an issue from time to time with the phone disconnecting when I get to someone voice mail. pharding - have you experienced the same thing?

The Motorola you are getting is certainly not cheap! My t637 was less than 100 after mail in rebate.

I am planning on getting Blackberry 7290 from Cingular, and I am disapointed to see that it does not work with BMW bluetooth on e60s (mine is 2004, so it still needs a retrofit). I know for a fact that Blackberry 7290 works on Acura TL with pretty good voice quality, and I don't understand why BMW makes us go through all this retrofit Bull $hit and offer a tiny variety of obsolete phones that might or might not be compatible. Makes you think how good BMW cares about its "technological" image...

I have a Blackberry 7290 in addition to my RAZR V3. I'll try pairing it up tomorrow for you.

Paul, is there a way you can share the same phone number between the RAZR V3 and the Blackberry 7290 ?

That would be an advantage over the V710 that everybody is waiting for Bluetooth capability from Verizon.

In The Netherlands you can request a duo sim card (f.e. with provider KPN), you get two sims both having the same number. You always have to have one device switched off, otherwise phone calls will get a mess.

But for example, you can switch off network activity on the Blackberry and then your phone calls go to the RAZR.

A while ago I tried the Blackberry 7100v and it did pair, but no other controls are available from the iDrive or steering wheel. I think the same will go for the 7290!. Too less bluetooth profiles on the device.... just basic headset functionality.

Bye

Thank you Paul so much! You've been extraordinary helpful and inform full on this forum! I will be looking forward to your results! If I can at least pair the BlackBerry 7290 to carry a hands free conversation, then I will be happy! (But sill I can't figure out why BMW can't make it right!)

Another question about the Blackberry BlueTooth (it is a long shot, but hey - its a big forum) Did anybody ever tried pairing Blackberry 7100t to their e60? What worked and what didn't?

Thanks to all for any feedback.

The 7100t has the same technology as the 7100v.

Pairing works, dialing from the 7100v and when there is a connection the BMW BT takes over the call and functions as a headset.

Incoming calls, no message in iDrive, but answering on the 7100, the BMW BT takes over and functions as a headset.

No address book synchronisation, I couldn't find the manual transmission (had the 7100 for a short while), but I've read on X5world that address book can be transmitted manually.

I also read somewhere that RIM would add more bluetooth profiles to their devices (f.e. dial-up networking). Don't know if it's true.

Bye
