Aftermarket Wheels and suspensions for Xi
#361
hi just wanted to ask... i have 08 535xi with the m-sport pkg so it has the 135 wheels, 18x8, ET43 (245/40/18 tires). I wanted to get another set of rims.. wondering if I should go with 40 offset or 35 offset? rims will still be 18x8 with tires that are 245/40/18... any help would be awesome thanks!

My Ride: 2008 535xi Touring - KW Var 3 Coilovers, VMR V710 20x9" wheels, Falken 452 245/35/19" Tires, OEM M5 Front Bumper, OEM M5 Front Fenders, OEM M5 Mirrors, Hamman Style CF Front Lip, Matte Black Kidney Grills, 20% Tint, B&W BMW Roundels.
I would like a stiffer suspension or one with less roll that is NOT lower. I want to retain my clearance for my trips often to roads with less than desirable surface. However, along the 1000-2000 miles before getting there, I'd like a better handling car too.
Would upgraded front or rear sway bars?
My air suspension rear is great for all the crap hauled on trips so for me it's a plus. I just want the best of both worlds somehow.

You are going to rub the heck out of the fender liner when you turn due to the tire arc being considerably wider than stock and wider than mine and my fronts rub at turn. Plus, I think a 9.5" with ET25 is going to be pretty silly from a usability perspective even if the visual perspective is very cool. Of course, with 20" rims, you are not setting it up as a driver's car anyway. I would love to see photos as 20's will be pretty interesting but you won't be going to any of the places I travel, that's for sure.
and your right Im not looking to build a track car ... as I already have one of those ... this will be show/daily driver. Im considering changing from the M5 reps to the X5 wheels as they are 20x9.5 ET45 which will allow me not to have to go so aggressive in the front, but I need to check inner clearances first.

What is the widest wheel that someone has seen run on the front? and what was the offset? this will help me calculate inner clearances.
Thanks!!!
Thanks!!!

Tires do not rub at "full lock", I said somewhere they rub at about 30-40% turn. Full would be ok because it would get there less often.
These are Bridgestone 960as plus, 245/45x18 on the 8.5" rim with ET29.

My Land Rover LR3 has little sensor arms with rods that people shorten to trick the computers to think it needs to go higher (creating a "lift" of sorts). So, it may be that the bmw could be modified to think lower is ok and not raise itself higher.
With cars like the VW Touareg or Cayenne, people have been able to simply have the computer programmed to sit lower but all of those are much more sofisticated suspension systems because they raise and lower via user controls too.

There is a thread with people complaining about failure of it. I do not think it will level itself lower to match the front, that would make no sense at all for the design of the car because it is supposed to keep cargo from sagging the rear, thus a set point is read by the computers.
