I have two BMW's the 545 and an X5 3.0, they are both 2004 MY cars and they are both have been very, very reliable. My X5 has never had one warranty issue and my 545 had the tires replaced and a software upgrade. I use both cars for work and they are driven, the 545 is 12 months old and has 16,000miles on it the X5 is 14 months old and has 17,000 mile on it.

I started this topic because I was affended that our cars were rated as unreliable, if it doesn't break down its reliable. JMO. OK next question how many of you will buy another BMW??????

My Ride: E60 "Stripper" Now C6 "Stripper"
Question

The 545i has been impeccable to date, the ride's never got me stranded, the window trap function gremlin has appeared and disappeared, tranny slam but that's about it.

But will i keep her past 6 years or 100k miles? (aka warranty's up) i don't think so.
Maybe an M3 sedan with a V8 is in the horizon.....

The people who answered CR's surveys are probably anal ayway.

Consider the source: pocket-protected geeks who habitually have a chip on their shoulder about anything above the "working man's" budget. They should stick to Subarus.

With that said, I must add that, having had mine 2 weeks, I am already VERY weary of the iDrive crap and the false warnings. True, no breakdowns or serious trouble, but that nagging (! ) on the dashboard and that ugly center screen are already on a list to somehow deactivate. (And yes, my star button is set to extinguish the iDrive screen....but it keeps coming back, dammit.) These are things of interest to children, not adults who are paying for the Ultimate Driving Experience.

All this, combined with the arrogant exterior design that is devoid of a single rub rail, really makes me wonder if I have erred in my continuing 30-year devotion.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Oh, I'm pretty much hooked now after only one (this one) BMW. So its either M6 or 650 next for me but no hurry. My next task will to to sneak in an M3 Cabrio (E93) to replace my wifes A4 Cabrio. She is not of the drive but of the "look" type. I think it will LOOK good enough for her. Also it must have one touch top control or she will not even look at it - hence her huffy departure from looking at MB CLK cabrios, much to the chagrin of the dealer

This is a little unfair to Consumer Reports readers and testers. A few years ago they rated a 530 the best car they ever tested in any category, and I'm pretty sure reliability was among their criteria, as well as all the other things that make these cars good. And the readers who own BMWs ... well, they own BMWs. I don't think they're any pickier than members of this forum.
