test drive [the british motor trend online] tested a 535 vs 550 and a road course with professional driver. the 550 could just barely out preform the desiel. can wait for it esp if available in the 6series.

530i ----->3000cc
530d----->3000cc
535d----->3000cc
Wait, wait ... Diesel, nowadays, = turbo diesel .

Thus 530i = 530d, because the 3.0d exists only turbo .

535d is BIturbo, like a turbopetrol .

535d ---> 535i, but now there isn't .

You should compare 545i with 545d .. But 545d doesn't exist, thus you have to compare the best petrol with the best diesel .

BMW use the same box for petrol and diesel.

320d/330d E46 had gears as follow (kmh) :
40-80-120-160-etc

330i E46 didn't have these gears, no!

the diesel boxes are beefed up to handle extra torque however...
Obviously : xxx HP are in 4k rpms instead of 7k rpms .
Downshift, put the PETROL engine @5000 rpm and push the pedal ....

You make some very good points i have to say.
So lets wait until 535i comes out to compare with the 535d

i said if 545d existed

There is no point comparing the m5 whiich is the best petrol e60 to the 535d which is the best diesel e60 though

No, you cannot compare the M with a normal E60 :-) .

I have heard that was in developing a diesel M5, V10 4xx HP ... ? Any news, rumors ?

Sorry for my (bad) english .. I mean that diesel engine have always shorter gear, thus you remain impressed by diesel engine ... But if you have on the side a petrol, it is faster
