My Ride: 530i
So, everyone wants a bit of a comparison of the e60 to the e90. Well, I first got into my e90 back in early June. I had a 911 c4 cabrio which wasn't really working out as my daily driver. It was fine as a winter car, but a bit too low and my back problems really hindered the daily enjoyment... Also, I enjoy a bit more refinement in my cars. I guess I'm more of a GT car guy (Maserati & Aston Martin are my favorites).
So, I walk into the BMW dealer looking at the 5 series, but the e90 on the floor with the Terra interior really caught my eye. I like the design and loved the interior color, they didn't have an auburn 5 series at the time. When the dealer offered me a trade value of what I paid on the 911, I acted quickly and got the e90.
Through driving the e90 for about 7 months, it solidified my love for the BMW brand. I was always a VW/Audi/Porsche guy prior. I'll never go back to Audi anfter having my BMW. The e90 was a fun little sporty car. Sharp handling and very responsive for a 325... It seemed to run even better as it got above 3K miles. My only complaints were the tight interior and I wanted a bit more power (of course). So I went back to looking at the 5.
Now that I've got the 5, I find that a bit of the comparisons between the cars is not so true. the 3 series guys really stress what a sport car the 3 is compared to the 5. I don't feel this is really accurate. I feel the e60 handles just as good as me e90 did, tight and responsive steering, more power (not fair 325 vs 530) and at higher speed, the 5 feels a lot more planted on the highway.
My favorite points of the 5 are the styling... I personally am a huge fan of the Bangle designs (I'm a design professor so my view may be skewed). I feel the e60 has more passion and design aesthetic than the e90. I think the interior has much more space and comfort. I like the fact that I can move my elbows when I'm driving. Additionally the ride is more smooth, more trunk space, etc..
Like I said in an earlier thread, I think the build quality is the same, but the 3 has better cup holders, smoother design to the center console and I like the steering wheel better... There's always the Hartge steering wheel, but I think that doesn't really fit the style of my 5.
Both are great cars. I tend to keep cars for about 6-24 months, let's see how long this one lasts... At this point, the only other car I would change for would be a 550 (or M5 of course).

Hi All,
I'm a newbie here and just wanted to say hi to all.
I am a former owner of an e90 and have now moved to an e60. It's only been a week and I really love the car.
I enjoyed the contributors over at e90post.com, but have seen that you guys seem to have a good discussion going on and frequent contributors as well.
I look forward to your input and help while I learn more about my car.
Good Luck,
~Petercat
