I had a Panamera S PDK for the weekend, that gearbox, or rather the very short first and second gear would drive me insane... I think that's how they those 0-60 times. I think vmax in 2nd was 60km/h!! Sure it has 7 gears, but my 911 will do 90km/h in 2nd....
I'm totally sold on diesels and EfficientDynamics so my next car will be an F10 535d.

As for the Panamera, I suppose that super-short gearing in first and second would produce better 0 to 60 times. I don't think I'd mind that kind of gearing. If you want a more leisurely start, I assume that you could start out in second gear.

True, but unlike the BMW which drops down to 2nd if you come to a stop while in "manual" mode, the Porsche drops down into first. It's not that I want to start off leisurely either. The problem is that in manual mode, if turning out of a side street quickly, you run out of revs in first with the steering wheel still turned, and the paddle shifter in the wrong position to shift. One could leave it in auto, but where's the fun in that!! I didn't like the fancy suspension system either! Sport 2 is great for hard out driving, Sport 1 still too firm for open road cruising, and comfort, while a great ride has far too much body roll and too soft for open road driving here, admittedly great for around town though. So there is no mode suitable for the open road in NZ!! Sorry about the rant.... I WAS quite keen to get one....

Bizzarely enough given the car I'd be trading in, I'm actually considering an S-Class next time around. Others on the list are the Panamera, the Quattroporte, the new Jaguar XJ and the 7 Series.
The Panamera interior is AMAZING!

I'd ideally be looking at an E60 LCI 535d to carry me over until the F10 has bedded in nicely, but am increasing being tempted by the prices I'm seeing on Range Rover Sport tDV6 HSE's of late (I buy my cars 18-20 months old as a rule).
