If you can afford it, I'd defintely go for the DSLR, Canon or Nikon, over a point and shoot. You can use program mode of the DSLR to get comfortable with the camera and then explore all the other things you can do with it that are difficult or impossible with a P&S.
Also note the lens is more important than the camera for good images.

my friend got the camera last friday and he say it is very slow compare to 50D.
Looks like I will not get the body until they upgrade it. :thumbsdown:
they still using old tec stuff. :thumbsdown:
I will get the canon 16-35 L lens now and wait until end of next year for the 5D mark 3 to come out

The FPS is slower than the 50D on paper, so he should have known that. But why else is he saying it's slow?

he has all the models of Canon and Nikon and he say to me that if you what a camera to just take photos don't get the 5d mk2 it not worth it right now. instead get the 50D.

so i will wait until the price is down or if they do a facelift
