Spend the rest on the 70-200 f2.8 VR lens. It's fantastic for sporting events, especially on a DX camera. I even added the 1.7 teleconverter for more range.
Here is the lens at 70mm. You can see I was high up in the stands and had crowd issues at the start of the race.
Attachment 60399
Here is it with the 1.7 (at 300mm) shooting to the far side of the track during the less crowded practice sessions. This is only a slight crop and resized to 1200 to fit the screen.
BTW, that's hand held at 1/160 (@ 300mm!!) with the monster lens on the camera. Imagine what it could do on a tripod in the press area.

Went to buy my new photographic gear today~
Entered the shop, told the manager to get the Nikon D90 kit together. As I was waiting, the Canon rep walked into the shop. We had a 30 minute conversation regarding the merits of the D90 and the Canon 50D.
After some thought, I made my purchase and walked out of the store with the Canon!
I had gone to the camera shop with a firm resolve to buy the Nikon D90 kit, but in the end, I wavered and went back to what I was used to and bought the Canon 50D and lenses. All the Canon fans can cheer now~
Again... a huge thank you to everyone that gave me advice... And sorry for all the indecision~

I'm sure you couldn't have gone wrong with either choice.
To answer your question, yes I have the D200 with the 12-24, 18-200VR, the 70-200 f2.8 VR, the 1.7 teleconverter, and an old 60 macro. The only thing I lack is a fast mid-range. I'm thinking either the 17-55 f2.8 or the new 24-70 f2.8, or maybe a couple primes.
What lenses did you get with the Canon?

As for the lenses I bought, this is the whole kit I picked up today.
- Canon 50D body
- EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens
- EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens
- EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM lens
- SPEEDLITE 580EX II flash
- BG-E2N battery grip
- Canon lens filter (3)
- Canon 200-DG digital gear bag
- SanDisk Extreme IV CF 8GB
I'm really happy with the purchase. Got an awesome deal too!

I couldn't help it. I saw that Canon 50D, put on the 24-105 f/4 L lens, tried it out and I fell in love with the pictures!
And yeah... I did get that CF card!
