I have heard good things about them but don't have any firsthand knowledge. I would check out this forum before you buy. http://www.ar15.com

I'm wondering, no offense at all, why the Americans like to buy and own guns so much? I mean, there's not much use for it except hiding in your drawers or closets, and you are not planning to shoot someone, and I assume you won't be carrying the AK when you go for a meal or shopping. The only chance that you are going to use it is if someone is robbing/assaulting your house and you have to protect yourselves, but not with an AK !?!?

I'm asking this question not out of unrespect to anybody but wondering the logic behind it.
Americans have a need to arm ourselves just in case the Canadians decide to attack us....

I'm thinking of getting this for protection:

Do you think it's enough?
No you need one of these mounted on your bed post.

Word up!

Some words of wisdom from Mr. Jones (Friday) with fists in the air... "You win some, You lose some. But you live... You live to fight another day. Now you think you a man with that gun in your hand?"

That's a good one!

But we don't carry guns, we only carry hockey sticks. I think it's not fair that you guys can use guns to defense against hockey sticks, baseball bats will be more suitable.

I appreciate the non patronizing tone of your question. Yes... this is not a weapon that would be used for home defense, homeland defense yes, but home defense no. There are several reasons why I made the purchase...

1. Because I can, it is my Constitutional Right, and I wanted one. Why buy a BMW that goes 150 mph when it is against the law to go over 70mph in most places? Because we can, that's what we want... etc. etc.

2. Second, it has been our Constitutional Right for law abiding citizens to bear arms since the signing of that document. That Right is about to come under fierce challenges and I wanted to exercise that Right before it is taken away from me.

3. The AK is perhaps the most prolific, successful small arms weapon in history. Not only as a weapon of aggression... but as a weapon of defense. Because of it's relative cheap cost and reliability, it has been available to those who would otherwise not have access. (This is obviously both good and bad). Anyway, it has played a huge role in the history of many worldwide conflicts and I wanted one.

4. The US has historically thought our homeland to be invincible from attack... then Pearl Harbor... then 911. Do I expect to have to defend myself in a terrorist attack or military conflict... no not really... but I don't expect to get in a car accident either, and I still wear my seat belt.

I am sure I could write a short book on this issue... but I hope the above sheds a little light.
I understand your points. But think of it this way, if I know my neigbour owns an AK, I will feel very uncomfortable living beside him. I will be very scare when I see him having a beer because alcohol can cause people to do some very terrible things even in the smallest conflict. I will also be very scare when I'm in a car accident and won't want to get out from the car to argue with the other driver because I don't know what's in his glove box or trunk and what he's going to do with it. So on and so on........ Living with these kind of feelings all the time is quite miserable. But AGAIN, NO DISRESPECT at all to all gun owners, it's just my 2 cents.

People are not driving around all day with their AK's in their cars. If they are, it is illegal and most likely not registered. Any thug in any country could be rolling around with an illegal firearm.

You make it sound like everyone in the US is rolling around armed and ready to shoot. I think you have watching too many movies.
