I tend to agree... if that were the case then why can't you do more than one task on the iphone.... not so bad on a phone, but kind of silly to pitch something that is a computer/phone hybrid that cannot do computer type things.

'iBooks' is only available in the US, so again, you eliminate its 'raison d'etre'. Isn't that the main feature? You also need to buy an additional keyboard dock to connect a keyboard to it, there's no usb ports, memory card slot, the max resolution is only 1024 x 768 and you can't load web pages that have flash in them. To me, that's too many features missing to justify the purchasing of it in the first place...

I'll pass..... (and I have plenty of Apple stuff)

Cheers

Multi Tasking and Flash are a must. i dont know what the hell they were thinking with that.

I would imagine a future 4G version would include a camera and video calling capability, as will most cell phones.

Given them two years and the camera will be in it. They are going to hook the early adopters and the general public on the first version. Then, they will come out with upgraded models with "new features" that cause the early adopters to upgrade their perfectly good units to the newer models. You'll see the lines at the apple store.....it will be just like the iPhone....

The iPad (and the iPhone) does indeed multitask and it's doing so today - multiple system apps are running concurrently in the background. It is USER apps that are not prohibited to run in the background. Apple claims this is due to battery life and user/data integrity and protection. Whatever your views on that, the device itself is already multitasking, the OS is capable (multithreaded) and the hardware is capable (multi core ARM design, believed to be based on the Cortex-A9). The ability to run user apps in the background is a feature Apple can choose to implement at will, and it is software only. As I posted earlier, OS4 may well bring it but frankly I've never missed it on my iPhone. It may be a bigger deal for some, though I suspect many of those clamoring for it would actually rarely if ever need it or use it (and many of them frankly don't actually understand what it is they are bitching about!).

1024*768 is a perfectly decent resolution for a 9.7" display. The iPad and iPhone have the same pixel density (162 PPI) and web pages that looked fine on the iPhone will look great on the iPad - the same browsing experience as the iPhone without the need to zoom or multi-touch to view larger web pages.

The bookstore will come to global markets just as the iTunes store itself started out as a US-only offering before expanding globally. Word is that Apple only concluded many of the content licensing deals this week, just before the event. Cross-border IP licensing is easier said than done but ultimately the copyright owners want their content available globally as much as Apple wants to sell it - on more favorable terms than Amazon's Kindle incidentally - so this will be a non-issue in short order.

Safari on the iPhone/iPad will load any page, it's not accurate to say you can't load web pages that have flash. Granted, flash content won't display, but ask yourself what comprises the majority of flash content for most web pages? Annoying animated ads. I can live without those, although the advent of HTML5 will make that moot as the annoying ads will render natively without a plug in. As for the other major use for flash on the web, I am reliably informed that there is plenty of porn available in formats that are natively supported by the iPhone and iPad

Has Apple learned their lesson and allowed for a user-replaceable battery or are they still holding everyone hostage?

Regardless of whether you like apple or care for the product, you have to admit this is an incredible product for the money. one can be had for $499! This thing is a multimedia marvel @ that price! I am actually going to buy this instead of a new laptop, and it will be a quarter of the price, and have a better battery life then any laptop out there.

For those worried about typing on the touch screen:
There is no doubt that Apple makes some amazing products and has created entire new lines of products that no one thought of before. I didn't get an iPhone because at least until this summer, iPhone is exclusive to AT&T whose voice service is horrendous in Manhattan and I would never spend huge money for an unlocked iPhone when the Motorola Droid is sp damn good and works beauyifully on Verizon.

There's no hdd - it's all flash based. Next gen will definitely have more flash storage, should be 128GB+.
