I'm glad that we can agree that everything starts in the Home!
I'm also glad that we can agree to disagree...that's what's so great about this country! Apologies to OP if this is turning into a thread jack...

I've enjoyed the discussion very much. You are all bright and well versed. It's been fun (except for swajames name-calling)...
For the record, while I don't necessarily agree with you, I respect your opinion - and my comments were clearly made solely in respect of those opinions, not their originator.
That's far from "name-calling". That's difference of opinion and discussion - and this has actually been a pretty interesting one
That said, I've participated in this discussion without resort to the last vestige of the personal insult - and I think you owe me an apology here...

swajames - I can see you're not one to let few facts get in the way. Nice tactic though- you call me names and then ask me for an apology...Brilliant!!!
"Very, very misleading and disingenuous post, Juris335." Calling me disingenuous is calling me a liar. Calling me a liar is calling me a name. End of story.
I'll not engage in your dishonest pontificating and will not respond to any further posts on this. You called my "opinions" disingenuous-a liar- and then you demand an apology.
My statement about the 52% tax was truthful. Your statement that I was dishonest is dishonest. Big difference.
I'll not perpetuate your corrupt logic by responding further.

Others here can make up their own minds on the respective merits of our positions.
But as a matter of semantics, my finding your opinions to be disingenuous has no connotation beyond that. It doesn't mean that I am or was calling you a liar. The two terms are not (and, of course, never were) synonymous...
So, as I said, there are and there never were any names in my posts. There was nothing ad-hominem whatsover. You'll see this if you read them again. You may also want to re-read the specific bits that you quoted above...
Back to business. In my first post, I demonstrated the why the 52% number and its attribution were not accurate. For completeness, I'll again summarize why.
It is because it is not just the health care reforms alone that are driving the effective rates of tax up to these levels.
There are a host of time limited tax measures, some passed by the prior administration, that are expiring or are phasing out, and these, coupled with other taxes, have to be aggregated and bundled to get close to the numbers being banded around.
Trouble is, the devil is as always in the detail, and those details don't make good headlines or play too well with the Fox News crowd...
I'll keep my conclusion simple:
Are taxes going up? Yes. Is it all due to the health care bill? No. And do you still owe me an apology? Yes.

It is not a coincidence Obama's approval ratings are dropping. Especially his ratings on handling the economy and health care policy.
Obama is trying rush legislation through, before the next elections.
Hopefully after Nov. 2010, we will once again have checks and balances. Hopefully it is not too late.
