Hi all,
I need help with mp3 playback.
I have a 2005 530i (non-NAV).
I just got a CIP 24.02
software update at the dealership.
That is supposed to give me MP3 playback
capability, right?
Anyway I burned a couple of mp3 (192kbps)
files using the exact settings recommended
in first post here.
I used a trial version of latest 7.8.5.0 Nero
software. In the car, I get get message
"Cannot read medium"
Any help is appreciated
Thanks

Also, I'm pretty sure the dealer has to enable some sort of option while doing the software update to activate the MP3 "retrofit"...

I used TDK CD-R
If your 2nd point is correct, then that is probably my problem.
Wonder how I can find out for sure.

What type of blank media are you using? CD-R? CD-RW?

I checked that bulletin. Only thing that concerns me regards mp3 retro is:
"E60 with SA 609 CCC-Navigation.."
I do not have any NAV, so is that a problem.
Thanks

You can ask the dealer if they followed the steps in the following bulletin:

Meanwhile......Burning MP3s...
I burnt several mp3s for a pal and surprise surprise, they work in both our cars. They play fine in the single cd player and also in the 6 changer. Mine is an '04 (Professional) and his is a '53 (Business). Go figure... the literature says you can only make MP3s using the bahnhofer (or such name) encoder.
Anyone tried this?... PC was a Vista OS machine.

Samsung drive in my laptop ts-L532A <------ model witch has problem that a generaly recognized as not been able to burn dvd -R disk s in a proper way.
I now use imagination DVD + R disk from the brand imagination and i am ok now. I am able to burn dvd +R and read them in my nav slot.
So if you got problems try at least 3 of 4 brands dvds and buy some + dvd s also.
Also check out the drive you have, write down the manufacterer model of the drive and google it and maybe you will be helped like i was

I've tried burning MP3 CDs with both iTunes and the Windows XP drag-into-folder and burn method, with most songs above 192kbps. BOth methods work perfectly.
HOWEVER, there were a couple of songs (of the same artist) I that showed up "artistname.mp3" and did not play. In trying to figure out WHY, I noticed this particular artists files had an audio sample rate of 48kHz, compared to all others being 44kHz. I'm guessing this may have been the cause....can anyone shed more light on this?

My Ride: 2007 530xi - Black Sapphire Metalic, Black Leather
Premium package, Navigaation, Cold weather package, Satellite Radio, Rear fold-down seats.
My First BMW, and the greatest car I've ever driven.
So, I just read through this whole thread, and I still have a couple of questions (I know they are probably dumb, but I'm new to this, so really appreciate any input):
1) I have a 2007 530xi with navigation...do I need any software upgrades to play the mp3 cds?
2) Can I burn the songs that I have on my I-tunes library (which I guess are .aag types of files), or do I need to make everything .mp3?
3) Has anyone noticed any difference in burning from a PC or Mac? I have both, but don't know which is better...if it makes a difference at all.
Thanks,
rtl

I have just had my 535d 2005 model upgraded to Progman 25. This gave extra list of icons on Nav map screen and new look to iDrive. Should MP3 now be enabled? Is there any way to check? I have tried MP3 CD burnt as above in both Navigation DVD drive and single slot CD but they stay greyed out in the menu. Anything else I can try?
Thanks, Steve

My Ride: 2004 545i Silver Grey Premium Package, Sport Package, Dynamic Driving Package
Anyone have problems with burn CD? Not mp3 but CD, as in a copy of a store bought CD? I have a bunch of CDs that I copied to be used in the CD changer of my wife's Subaru. Since I can't play mp3 in my car (Oct 03 built '04 545i) I figure I will use some of her CDs as opposed to the original copy in the house. The CD plays but skip a lot. Why is that? I asked the dealer and he said that they only guarantee store bought CD and not burn CD to play in the CD player.
