I agree. And it is your opinion that I am being too hostile and need to relax. Are you the mediator, arbitrator, and bouncer?
I am not arguing against his opinion, just the fact that I do not think he is in the position to make such an opinion.
That is all.

My dad has a 2007 Tahoe and his tranmission went out at 30K. Browse around on the GMC forums and I assure you this wont be the only case. Have you seen any posts about an e60 tranny going out that early?

All - The argument has been settled and was a misunderstanding. Bravo and I have worked this out.
This forum is full of topics and opinions about reliability and I get heated when posts are geared towards the lack there of.
The fact of the matter is, if these vehicles are maintained properly, they are very reliable. Why do you think car and driver rank the 3 series in the top 10 every year. The 5 and 7 series are not far off.

So I lay the argument to rest and apologize if anyone has taken offense.

Excellent, Mag75. I accept your apology.
Next time your opinion differs with another, perhaps you could just say that and not personally attack the poster, as you did here.
You had no personal knowledge or proof of your wild accusations against the OP:
You called him a spammer; a mercedes forum member; challenged the existence of his 523; questioned his being on this forum for years; required him to post complaints on reliability before he is allowed to complain about the F10; challenged his being from Singapore while quoting an American author; accused him of starting the post solely to start an arguement; calling him full of BS; telling us we all know his kind.
Next time your opinion differs with another, perhaps you could just say that and not personally attack the poster, as you did here. Then there would be no need for an apology.

Reliability certainly is a relative attribute ... and our expectations (which change over time) go a long way towards how we view our experiences.
As I have noted before, the vast majority of topics we talk about here have nothing to do with mechanical failures ... yes, there are a few electrical issues now and then. But almost everything we discuss here is about how to make our E60s look cooler, handle sharper, and go faster.
I've owned a bunch of BMWs over the past 20 years, and I have never been stranded by one. The only common failure I have experienced is the batteries ... so now I just pro-actively change them out at 4 years.
Industry data shows that reliability has improved significantly from 10 years ago - and so have BMWs.

Thank you for all your kind comments. It was just a simple misunderstanding between us and.
Mag75 is exceptionally passionate about his E60 and i hope with this post this issue can end.
The purpose of this thread is just to express my hope that the new F10 will be MORE reliable than the outgoing E60. This is not to say the E60 is not reliable per se, but rather it is my hope that the new F10 will surpass the reliability record of the outgoing E60.
Mantaining one's car is very important and of course vital to a trouble free car ownership. But with the advent of sophisticated and complicated electronics embedded in the cars, just mantaining the "physical" mechanical parts, may not be sufficient to ensure trouble free ownership. I am not too sure is preventive mantainance is possible for electronic components, so its pretty much up to BMW to ensure that their electronic components are properly designed (adequate shielding from heat, software programming etc etc.)Components may be outsourced, and we cant blame BMW for everything.
I understand that many factors come into play regarding reliability, and sometimes its just the luck of the draw. My family's previous E28 520i, E32 730i and E39 520i, all had excellent reliability, and so the many faults we had on the E60 was not expected. .
That said, I am cautiously optimistic, that BMW will learn from the strenghts and weakness of the E60, and produce a car we call all be proud to own.
Regards,
bravo

Hey Dad, next time I need a life lesson I will PM you and make sure my posts are ok.
Very good my son. Glad you learned how to disagree with another with class and intelligence.
