Whats with BMW piling on weight in their new models. The new F10 550 weighs 1830 kg (E60 550 was 1735 kg), same as the outgoing 10 cilinder M5, also the same as the E500. New 750 is about 70 kg heavier than the S500. New A8 promises to lighter than both. Not a happy bunny
The F10 must be quieter (more isolations) and have more standard equipment.

The F10 has more aluminum than the E60, even the front and rear doors will be made of alu in contrast to the E60.

+ 60 to 70 kg depending to model. That's like a old lady more

Hi,

I have put an order in today and tried to get informed about the source of the weigth increase. I was told that the biggest single increase comes from the new 8 gear autotranny.

I also believe that the passive safety must have been an important target and it obviously adds weigth. As does the fact that the wheelbase is 10 cm longer which migth have impact in the construction in order to make tha car stiff enough. The stffness has been increased by 55%.

Anyhow, I am sure that the new F10 528iA will be an other ultimate driving machine.

Countdown has begun, it should be from march production and delivery in April.

Best regards,

TGII

It gets worse, if the figure for the 550i on BMW's UK site is correct....wait for it...1905 kg. Thats a real shocker, I hope they are wrong...

Improvements in aerodynamics plus BMW efficient dynamics will mean there is no performance loos for the added weight.

Also, improvement in chasis and chasis design areas (sub-frame) since the E60 wes designed in 2004 will mean the car will be quicker and more responsive if anything.

BMW build cars that people like to drive due to their responsiveness and sportiness, that will not be compromised by added weight, otherwise they take it out.

Like the two girls above...in a dark room after a few beers they both feel the same with the lights out. Once you are in the F10 BMW 'saddle' you'll feel instantly at home and faimiliar with the car.

Personally, I don't like that size zero stuff, neither 200lb women. Nice German girl for me !!!

Straight line pace wont suffer because of the new engines (maybe just the 535i which is slower than the e60). The F10 wont be as chuckable and will lose feel that I guarantee. Adding weight hurts handling full stop. After all the new 550i weighs 10kgs more than a S350.
