On my previous e46 tourings the tailgate glass opened with the button on the key. When I got the e61 it just opens the main tailgate.

Can this be set to either? If so is it going to need a dealer or specialist?

Can't recall ever seeing this option in the Idrive settings. If possible it probably will be a dealer setting.

 

Nope, that option disappeared with both the E60 series as well as the E90 series. From now on, it's either tailgate unlock or tailgate open (optional in most countries)...
