Hey all -

I'm a long time Touring owner - owned a 1995 525iT (classic design, great handling, but slow as a St. Bernard), and an E39 540iT (awesome engine, great looks, but heavy steering), and finally talked my wife into the cult by buying her a 2006 530XIT (Double black, 25,000 miles, $36k) based on the premise that the in-town mileage of 17 would be a far site better than the 11 she currently gets in her Expedition, and she'd be able to drive a BMW to boot.

Well, one week and 1 tank of gas in, and the OBC is giving us 13.8MPG - you've got to be kidding me.

My daily driver is my 540iT, and I bust that around town with a heavy foot, and get 15.6 - is it even possible that a 2006 530XIT can return 13.8?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi,

Your 13.8 mpg (17 l/100 km) is quite high but it can be normal for example when you drive only in city. I have exactly similar car and record all fillings. Normal consumption is about 21.4 mpg (11 l/100km). All time highest has been 16 mpg (14.7 l/100km) during winter and the lowest 26.1 mpg (9 l/100km). This are all has been calculated from exact filling figures and for full tank. I have found that iDrive consumption figure is really correct.

Speaking of Fuel Consumption, I've had my 535xiT for 2,400km now and I'm getting 13.0L/100km of mixed driving. Its not too bad, but I've seen guys on the forum get 24mpg - 9.8L/100km.

17L/100km is very high, and I don't think it is normal (even for strictly city driving)

Good Luck with figuring out the problem

Something doesn't sound right!

I also have a 2006 530xiT and am getting 20 around town and 27-28 on the highway.

i've been test driving one from a broker and seeing 22.5-23 for a week now. car has 47k miles. and it's been around 0F-20F temps. my driving is equally split 55mph road (going 60-65) and 70 mph freeway (going 80). and i've been aggressive on the gas. hey, i'm testing it out! i have no "city" driving to provide.
