This is the main base thread of LCI light conversion = https://5series.net/forums/e60-parts...-lights-46834/ ... probably the 1st that done such conversion.
If you read thru the thread you'll find that the car that the OP of that thread use has production date 12/2003 ... his conversion seems to cost him US$3-4K using dealer according to the thread.

I did my own conversion work myself ... just bought the headlights here for $500 ... already own the taillights for awhile so didn't remember the cost when I bought it before.

I prefer not to go with the dealer , i just need to find the right network in Australia of people who can help. Im confident in removing and replacing the bumper, It shouldnt be too hard to figure out how to swap the lights. I assume the retrofit cable set means that you plug one light out and plug the other in, so whats left just the reprograming. I know its not this straight forward what have i missed.

The good news is that I already have the headlights and cable kit. What if I wasnt to install the rear lights would the front lights still work.

No not really plug-'n-play like that ... the LCM must be re-wired some pins has been moved around some wire(s) not in use etc ... the retrofit cable is not actualy plug one end and plug the other end (true for the taillights) for the headlight the retrofit kit came as pieces ... you get pins ... so you have to undo the wires & pins from the old plug then cut the old wires off and re-crimp into the new pins came w/ the kit solder some stuff to make sure a tight fit make sure all color coded correctly and put them into the new plug.

... see the pins (lower right) you have to re-crimp in the kit while the adapter on the top are for the taillights:

Are talking about the same kit? Have you open up and take a closer look of the cable kit? BTW That kit also come w/ extensive info from BMW too.

When you do the programming for the new LCM to enable LCI light functionality it'll expect the LCI rear lights too otherwise the taillights will light up differently and you'll get various iDrive error.

Well damnit. Was hoping to do this soon. But e61 LCI tails make this a lot more money for me(and a complete waste in my opinion)... Looks like some one off Pre-Lci headlights will have to do.
