Bavarian Soundwerks Stage I - Install Day 2

I continued the job on the second day. I thougt it's going to be easy; less surface and less wiring. I should have known better...

I almost ripped the door card in two when it disagreed to get off from its upper edge. Then I took a glimpse on a TIS and it said the little curtain has to be removed at first. I couldn't understand how it would affect it, but hey, right after removing the curtain the door card easily came off. LOL.

The humidity cover came nicely off and the glue didn't stretch forever and forever.

Dynamatted.

Speaker changed and some noise killer put.

Cover glued back again.

The left side was easier as I was wiser.

Speaker changed and some noise killer put.

Putting it back together.

Done. Except that the little curtain part hasn't been put back yet.

Focal Solid 1 amplifier and Carpower Blackbass 10 install.

I put Dynamat only to the "roof", because the subwoofer "leaks" only very little to the trunk when faced forward through the ski-port.

Had to thought about the mounting of the amplifier. After a little puzzle I ended up modifying the existing empty rack to get a flat surface for the amp.

Wiring.

Modified rack for the Focal.

Luring the remote control wire (white).

In front I brought the wire to the same location as in my ex car.

This plug&play harness is very handy to take the signal for the extra amplifier. No cutting needed.

The LOC is included. I taped it to the frame.

Getting there...

Here it is. Still missing the sub, though.

Fits like a glove.

Needs some kind of a cover.

Not so pretty aesthetically, but easy to remove if some more space is needed.

I also changed the door sill on drivers door. The original was in awful condition.

Felt like a new car when ripping of the covering plastics.

Much better.

It's a Carpower Blackbass 10:
- 2x250WMAX
- 2x4Ω

I've connected it parallel so it's 2Ω

This is exactly the same audio setup that I had in my previous car. I've had the sub even longer, I had it in my ex ex car too .

Recycling is good, lol

I have a 12w6 and a 500/1 in mine, but the amp got fried a couple of weeks ago so i gotta get a new one.

Did you play around with the box before you decided to fire it towards the back seat?

With this M5 I already knew I'm going to put the sub against the rear seat, facing forward, but with my 530d I had to play with it a little. The 530d didn't have ski port, and when I first put the sub in the trunk, nothing could be heard in cabin. The trunk is sealed very good in these cars. Therefore I cut a ski port in the rear seat of 530d. Then I realized that if I put the sub in trunk the "traditional" way (pointing backwards), the sub box will conceal the ski port, and the bass will more or less stay in trunk again. Now when the subwoofer points into a cabin through the ski port, the trunk itself stays quieter and more bass will access the cabin .

Yea the trunk is VERY good sealed, i have a ski port and 60/40 seat and i can barely hear my sub in the back there, but when i open the 40 seat it is mad loud, lol

Crap, this means i have to build another box facing forward

Do you have the armrest down all the time then with the ski bag out?

Yes, I have the armrest down almost always.

What kind of subwoofer box do you have now? If it's traditional shaped, maybe you could do the same as I did:

Now I feel dumb, d'oh!

I went to the club garage today to install the aluminium pedals, but then I realized the brake pedal of the M5 is not like it is in an ordinary E60 automatic! The pedals that I bought have this wider brake pedal and it is narrow in the M5!
Well, my friend came by to get his new battery registered in his E61 530d, so I ended up selling the pedals to him haha! I installed them to top it off .
