[/quote]The new Evo reports the following in a comparison test:
New M5: 5.0 (60); 13.2 (1/4 sec.) 116 (1/4 MPH)
Lambo Gallardo: 4.7; 13.0; 115
Earlier results for the Lambo Gallardo are:
Lamborghini Gallardo R&T 3/04 4.0 9.1 12.3 117.40
Lamborghini Gallardo MT 8/04 4.3 12.5 116.70
Lamborghini Gallardo C&D 2/04 4.1 12.4
Averages for Gallardo from above 4.13; 12.40; 117.05
Using the above averages and extrapolating generously to the M5's Evo results yields:
0 - 60: 5.0 - (4.7 - 4.13) = 4.43 sec.
1/4 time: 13.2 - (13.0 - 12.4) = 12.6 sec.
1/4 speed: 115 + (117.05 - 116) = 116.05 MPH
The time for estimating is officially over. The winner of the M5 will be selected from the following:
BMW M5 Bimmer32 4.2 11.4 117
BMW M5 cobradav 4.3 12.1 121
BMW M5 m5lover 4.2 12.1 118.2
BMW M5 wolverine 4.2 12.2 120
BMW M5 Stream 4.1 12.2 116.40+
BMW M5 Centurion 4.4 12.4 117
BMW M5 vnod 4.3 12.6 115
I declare myself the odds-on favorite at this point. But, time will tell. I think the red is very cool. But, I may choose blue or the bright silver. Still, the white one I saw placed in the showroom at 9:00 a.m. at my dealer, which had a list of $96,000 and went out the door for $120,000 (not including tax, title, and license) in less than two hours, was very nice.

The data are from a dragstrip. I'm still looking good on winning the M5 and trip to Germany. I think I am going with red. Well, maybe silver.

There is a tad more evidence, which may be pertinent, on this thread. I'm still looking good to win.

My guess was for the BEST times we'll see reported. The average will be considerably lower. I think Centurion has the best shot.

I wish they would hurry up and get on with the testing. I want them to be like Centurion's prediction or better, but am pessimistic. Have you though about using a G-meter on your car? Doing so would give us another data point. My only point, in my last several posts, is that the data that are in so far favor my predicitions. My primary focus it the 1/4 time. I think Centurion's 0 - 60 is likely to be closest. I don't know about the 1/4 speed. I guess 2 out of 3 wins. The new (to me at least) info about the tame US LC may have taken the wind out of my 4.3 to 0 to 60 questimate's sails, but I think it implies some soundness for my other predictions.

This is a terrible time - I don't think it is representative. The car may not have been broken in, and who knows how good the driver was. The trap time is very low.
I think the other thing to consider is to look at the E55 times, and how long it took someone to report the 'best times'. Supposedly, someone just ran a sub-12 second time. That means it took 3- 4 years after the initial cars came out to get the best time. As with any car, you'll see better and better times as more people get runs in and build up experience.

Right. Intially, I am only interested in possible indicators of what the mags will report. I still wish they would hurry up. I am posting the things I do just as FYI's and to keep minor interest in the "contest" alive.
