Funny you should mention that. I was kind of disappointed to see Chevrolet make the current Z06 with smaller dimensions.
But it works with their goal in bringing the weight down and getting quicker times at the track (Nurburgring).
Hey Pennyurion:

The weight of the Z06 is essentially unchanged. The main change between the C5's and C6's is wheel base and chopping the rear off some. I don't know how the weights of the "regular C5' and C6's compare, but they won't be far apart either--at least not because of the comsmetic change. And, yes, didn't the Z06 burn up the ring. "I fell down into a burning ring of fire. Down. Down. Down. ..." Did you see the movie? I liked it much. The real M(an)IB.

By the way, we've really taken this thread down an awkward path.

But not to worry. Motor Trend and Road & Track will have M5 times soon enough.
I updated the the data-base post (#85). I had erroneous included the results of one article and have replaced those results with the correct (better) ones. I also updated post #85 for my new best--4.03 (50 degrees F, almost no wheel spin, and did not powershift).

Hi Friends:

While waiting, I thought maybe some would like to toss around ideas on the following "confirmed" Ring times. I found the times on the Z06 forum and do not know who compiled it or how accurate it is.

The times are listed below. The record for a "production" car is held by the ?Radical? (however ?production car? is defined). The cars with #?s before them are ?modified cars? (however defined). The cars with an HVS designation supposedly were driven by Horst Von Saurma of Sport Auto Magazine.

There are several M5 times below. In regard to the C6 Z06, Dave Hill, the Corvette Platform manager, confirmed that Jan Magnussen lapped the Nurburing in 7:43 in an unmodified, stock tire, 2006 Corvette Z06. Apparently, Autoweek reported the Z06?s run, but mistakenly attributed the run to the rumored "Blue Devil" super-Z06. I have listed cars that we might be particularly interested in in bold.
