I don't mean to thread hijack here, but just curious about the Vortex Tuning rims -- are they generally a safe bet for good replicas?

I was thinking of going with M5 replicas from VT but I don't want to run into any of the aforementioned issues socal_doc is having here.
If you are going with reps...seems Miro is the only brand members tend to recc...while most members go with the 167/M6 reps...miro also makes M5 166 wheels...IMHO, when it comes to wheels, spend the extra coin on some quality/OEM wheels, your peace of mind is priceless

a quick search will find you a few threads on vortex wheels...

Genteals,
Thanks for the link.
I wish I would have read it before buying them.
I am still waiting on the hubcentric rings. I will put them on, Saturday. I am thinking just to put them on myself.
How hard could it be, right?

I am currently in Corona. Will probably be moving out to Irvine or Newport this summer.

Anybody know if you have to do something special when putting the rings on or do you just slip them on to the hub and then put the rims on?

Thanks

Slip them (the rings) on the wheel bore. They will snap on. And then put the rims on.

my opinion is that they need to balalnced, or the hub rings need to be looked at, failing this then the wheels could be bent or curbed.............

but balancing seems to be the cause i beleive.

I was looking at putting on a set of 166's from Vortex tuning, but if you had issues....

Did the hubcentric rings work and eliminate the vibration?

Hi Guys,

I am a new E60 owner, well actually a used E60. I just bought a 2006 530i, black/black premium package. I got a great deal on a CPO over at South Bay BMW in Torrance. The car has 29k miles and I got it for $26K.

I am already addicted to this forum and I just bought my car last week.

Well I already have a problem.
I bought some rims and tires before I got the car.
I was dumb I bought some replica 19" 166's off of ebay. I got them from a store in Rosemead called vortex tuning.
I put on some Kumho's 245/35/19 (F) and 275/30/19 ?.
The problem is that around 40-50 mph I get steering wheel vibration and around 55-60 I got vibration in the entire car.
At first I thought the balance was off. I went back to the tire store and they rebalanced all 4 tires and the problem improved a little, but it is still very noticeable.

Any one have any ideas as to what it could be? And btw there was no vibration problem at all with the stock wheels.

Any input would be appreciated.

Get those piece of shit rims off your car immediately. Get a refund, and buy OEM as soon as bloody possible. Thats my best advice to you bud.
ALLOW ME TO ELABORATE:

OEM 166 rims are cast aluminum but the process is done very well and a high-quality molding process in Germany. This makes sure you have long life, very good strength, LIGHT weight, (NO WARRANTY ROADBLOCKS IN CASE OF ACCIDENT, FAILURE, OR OTHERWISE), and the actual OEM deep curve look of the 166 wheel that no replica can duplicate....... none. On the other hand, the cheap ass rep wheels are going to be of a lesser quality, weigh a ton, not cast in the same manner, and will not look the same.

Why have a $60k car riding on shit wheels? Its like eating a gourmet meal on a pile of dirt instead of fine China.

P.S. - Welcome to the forum. =p

German cars can be finicky when it comes to hub rings. If you are still having a problem, you can bring the wheels/tires to a wheel shop equipped with a road force balancing machine. That will tell you if the wheels and/or tires are defective. If no problems, then its the hub rings.
