I found a test in the absolutely best car magazine Auto Motor und Sport between MB E-class and BMW 5-series. I think it is easier to read it in German, but for you who prefer English I have "translated" it with AltaVista?s babelfish. The English is thereafter. Guess which car wins?

BMW 520i against Mercedes E 200 K
The basis models of five-he row and e-class in the comparison: BMWS 520i and Mercedes E 200 compressor go into Design and technology different ways.



The BMW 520i does not possess a two-litre engine, but a 2,2-Liter-Triebwerk. The Mercedes E 200 has likewise no two litres capacity, but only for a sedan of this size of lean seeming 1.8 litres. The fuenfer profited here clearly noticeably from its smaller weight and proves a handling, whose precision for a sedan of this order of magnitude is most remarkable on winding distances. The Mercedes works, also because of its not completely so accurate steering element, more behaebiger.
BMW brake with better pedal feeling
Differences in driving safety do not certainly result from it. The Mercedes obtains the somewhat better values with the driving dynamics tests even. Both digest problem-free high rates of turn, prove a reliable self-guidance behavior and in extreme cases by cleanly co-ordinated chassis electronics are in-braked. Good brakes supplement the picture, whereby the conventional brake assembly of the BMW obtain a far better pedal feeling than the electrohydraulical brake of the Mercedes.

Despite their differenten driving characteristic the two competitors offer a travelling comfort which is on similarly high level. The BMW with its stahlfederung absorbs unevenness nearly as supply as the Mercedes, which began with the surcharge-requiring pneumatic cushioning to the test.

The first-class run culture of its engine, the better road performances and impressing handiness are the crucial strengths of the BMW. In consumption it is however underlaid for the Mercedes.

Mercedes e-class E 200 compressor Elegance


Very good travelling comfort and small gasoline consumption speak for the Mercedes. Its loaded four-cylinder does not approach in road performances and run culture however to the six cylinder of the BMW.
