The tirerack info in confusing, but when I do the compare option I can see the version of the 3Ds for my car in a 17 a not runflats. The 3D seems to have the most positive reviews from BMW drivers, so I'm leaning that way.
The M3's which rank#2 but have 5,709,000 reviews as opposed to the D3 which have 469,000 reviews. Good luck with the tire you choose either one is a good tire.

As I mentioned earlier, the Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tire is available in both a runflat (DSST) and a non-runflat. The 3D's also come in both flavors...

M3:

Right, but only the D3s are currently available in a 225/50-17, which is what is what they recommend as a 17 inch tire for my car. Its also what is on my 17 inch wheels now.

I agree - either is good. All the chemical compound talk in the descriptions of these tires reminds me of back to the future - 1.21 giga watts - that what makes time travel possible.

I've had the LM-22s (on my GS430) and now the Dunlop M3s on my 550. The M3s are a far superior tire IMHO. Dry traction is about the same but snow and wet is far better. As pointed out, check out the REVIEWS on Tirerack not what they tell you when you call.
