Do you know the difference between the LM-22 and LM-25? Tirerack only shows the LM-22 for my car. The description look pretty much the same. One on my uncle's has Blizzaks on his car. He speaks so highly of them, and the prices all seem close, that I was just going to go with Blizzaks.
Not too sure, but I know that when I wanted Blizzak's on my 18" OEM wheels, I had to go with the LM-25's. The LM-25's were the only Blizzaks that came in 245/40/18. When I bought them last year, they were the newest model too. I want to say the LM-22's are the older models, but I'm not sure of that.

One of them is a newer pattern, I think the LM-25. Blizzaks are great, highly recommended.
I wonder why they don't list the LM-25s for my car?

Some are made for one size, some for others. They don't make both in many cases. No need as they are so similar.

Jonathan, do you plan to change to winter wheels and tires as well or to just change the tires?

Is there anything wrong with the Blizzak WS-50 on a 545? They are only rated at QR, which is still fast. These are the tires my uncle liked so much. They have the super grip on ice. He has a light car that he modified to ride really low. He said he was bottomed out in 10 inches and the tires pulled him out. One review on tirerack of the LM-22 said the LM-22 was better than an all season, but nowhere near the WS-50. I didn't notice this tire option at first since it was on the second page. Unless I hear something terribly wrong with these, this seems like the tire for the winter.

If I remember the Blizzak model line correctly, the WS-50 is designed for maximum performance in the snow and ice where the LM-22 sacrifices some of the snow and ice performance for better dry performance.

There's always a trade-off between pure snow and ice traction and dry weather (but cold temperature) traction. Your uncle liked the snow performance of the WS-50 because it is an amazing tire in those conditions. The problem is that those tires aren't so amazing when you're not driving on snow and ice.

Many years ago, when Blizzaks first were introduced, there was only one model -- one that performed in the snow and ice. I used them on my E30 M3 and, although I could go anywhere in the snow, I hated them when it wasn't snowing. They were very, very spongy and the tread wore out fairly fast.

Unless you live somewhere where it snows a heck of a lot, you may find the LM-22 a better choice...

I'm using my setup from the 2004 car which I copied from Lomag's setup -- Dunlop M3's with ASA JH3 style wheels.

They're 17" so I have good protection from potholes, etc. Also, I had to have the tire pressure sensors installed in them this year but now I should be good to go for a while...
They will also take BMW center caps, making them look stock.

They might not have any stock. They tend not to list tires they don't have, or at least won't have until next season.

Which is exactly how The Tire Rack ships them...BMW centers included and installed...
